Hoddle St Massacre

Ok time for a new track.  This is highly experimental, don't expect pretty melodies or verse chorus structure, its more of a sound sculpture.

I am applying for Honours at Uni here in Melbourne and have decided to try and take sound maps of local areas and turn it into "music".  Sound maps for those of you who don't know are outdoor recordings and you usually put them up on the web with a marker on a map indicating where the sound was recorded.

What I have done is take the map and build a track/piece around it.  I have used the new Cubase granular synth PadShop to create the synth melody lines using only the sound map to create the grains.

Again this is highly experimental and my first attempt at such an idea, so be a little gentle.  My next attempt will be a little less atonal.

Cool idea, Ben. If we don't experiment we stand still. Life is one long experimental phase.

Hi Ben, interesting piece, quite sinister, lots of room to experiment.

Thanks guys, Herb I used an IXY Rode IPhone microphone.  Its a really cool piece of kit, 24 bit 96khz but the Rode Rec app is not great.  But the actual mic is really good, comparing it to the zoom hn2 microphone there is a roundness in the low mids that is missing with the zoom.

I'll agree, very experimental and creative. Will be interesting to see what you do with all these textures as a final piece.

    Hi Guys thanks for listening.

Steve, I'm alright, could be better could be worse.  I just hope I can get this project over the line, I hate not having a direction it drives me bonkers.  Things aren't looking good though in academia at the moment, Oz is about to elect the torries to power and it means "pointless" art research like mine gets thrown in the bin.  My one hope is I have found a niche.
Lynn, I don't think I am ahead of the curve at all, I'm just trying to find a niche.  I'm sick of being  an unfunded artist.
