To put it simply:

Developer says : "I am thinking about iOS products".

Customer hears: "IK Multimedia said the same thing.  Then they went crazy releasing iCrap, while virtually abandoning their existing product lines.  Indeed, some of their flagship products still haven't had 64 bit updates.  Oh boy, how much fun to have our needs ignored while they pump out worthless toys that real musicians would never use."

That's where IKM comes in.  It's simply a case of people extrapolating from a prominent example of an unsatisfying scenario.

Obviously your case is different.  It sounds like your developer buddy will leverage the content you created to create the iPad apps, leaving you free to continue what you do best.

Steven, I hope you have not been scared off by becoming unwittingly pulled into the issues with IK's Sampletank.

It struck me that while IK Sampletank was brought up when iOS was mentioned, it was probably more relevant to the Kontant / Mach 5 discussion. Are IK taking such a long time because they want to go up against those two? If so its a risky major undertaking, if not, is it worth their effort, at least commercially? If it can't compete with Kontakt or Mach 5 than its going to have to be cheap. My Susp icion is what ever they come up with will be too late.

IC. Understandable, I suppose.

No, this will just be a 'toe in water' thing, a bit of fun, an MLM type of thing on an iPad - see how it goes. If it goes ok, well, I might do another. But my focus will always be 'proper' library for 'proper' computers. I like the iPad - it can be great fun and is useful for some/many things - but I don't, right now, see it as a serious music making tool (although I suppose it gets a bit closer with the Alesis iDock) but I do see it as a vehicle for selling a few fun and quirky things for people to play with.

But it will always be a sideline to the principle activities here at HS Towers and I shan't be going the same route as IKM <collective sigh of relief>

Just getting back on the subject of the Shell, wanted to say what a hoot this is - have to say I only purchased this from curiosity, but it's such fun, and it's fun because its easy to use! Love it already and have made some seriously wacky stuff - no idea what I might use them for but who cares....................
