Holy crap, I'm being eaten by ants!

Dave, I remember when I was a wee lad, my Uncle Joe used to tell me these incredible tales of his overseas service in the Second World War.

I conjured up vivid images in my head as he recounted his and his comrades' adventures and campaigns in the steaming jungles of Borneo.

I particularly recall one of the more gruesome stories he used to relate, about how the Japanese would try to lure unsuspecting Allied soldiers into an ambush. Apparently, he said, they would tie a captured prisoner to a tree and smear him with honey, leaving the poor beleaguered soul at the mercy of the millions and millions of ants that would be attracted by the sweet smell.
 
The Japanese plan relied on the compassion of their enemies. The victims, on being engulfed by the marauding insects, would begin to scream out in agony and plead for release from their torment. Any unsuspecting Allied soldiers would naturally be drawn to attempt to save their colleague, unaware that they were walking into an extremely well defended ambush.
 
Joe would explain that once the Allies became aware of these deplorable tactics, they were ordered to ignore the pleadings of captured comrades and never to attempt a rescue, lest they themselves were captured in the 'honey trap' and then possibly used as the bait in future. He described in detail the anguish of having to try and put out of his mind the screaming of his compatriots being eaten alive by ants.

dunno how far into the jungle you are... to prevent ants getting onto your bed..ensure nothing touches the floor (bedclothes etc), and put the legs of the bed into saucepans half filled with water

if you are gonna be where you are at for a while.. get some spray... just dont buy anything US sourced as they dont like harmful chemicals in their pesticides

I'll bet Dave can score a kilo of name brand DDT down in Indonesia.

That was my next thought that Mystic had mentioned about sitting the bed frame in pans of water,  they wont cross it but if a blanket drapes to the floor they gonna get ya  

Well I woke up this morning

In my island paradise

My skin was kinda itchy

What had happened through the night?

Rubbed my eyes

Realized

I was covered in tropical insect bites



Holy Crap!

Little black ants
                           Eating my flesh
Freakin' little black ants
                           Eating my flesh
He..e..yay

Oh no

Little black ants

etc. etc.

1st - I must say I've always suspected Danny of being an Avon Rep!

2nd - I know that those insects are controlled remotely by ALIENS!

God don't make little green apples

Just a small FYI...  Ants won't walk on talcum powder so you can put rings around your bed posts with some (my friend used to put them near door entrances and window sills too).

It's not the little ones you have to worry about.

ZactLy! I stopped using water to take a bath years ago and now ONLY use talcum powder! I haven't been attacked by ants since!

Nahhhh ... it's just RETRO LONDON ... like 300 years!

Bit... if this continues let me know. I have been an exterminator since the early 60s with my dad. I can easily get in touch with an entymologist,I know several, who can ID the ants and tell you  what to do if you still need it.
Personally  I've never run into a problem where the anys were attacking a person... that can be serious, well it is serious, more or less so according to what ant it is.
