Hey, Jeff, Really nice tune, nice smooth, laid back vocalist. I especially liked the synth pads in the background and the nice dreamy ending.

thanks bill, i re-mixed the vox slightly at mjapan's suggestion .. and went with the wave Rverb rather than the Sonitus .. and it does make the vox a little more present. And while I had pads in it originally, Chaz convinced me to draw them out a little more .. and I think it does work pretty well. Pads are kind of like salt .. just a little too much and it becomes unpalettable. Can't wait to get this mixed properly.... jeff

I guess my approach to synths and pads is pretty much the same, matter of taste I guess

Jeff, An oldy but goody. I like the treatment on this version. Kaleb has a great, smooth voice. He doesn't have that plaintive quality of yours, but he makes do nicely<g> So, how about that bit from 1:10 to 1:30? Could you imagine Wayne Shorter blowing a tenor over that like on Aja; that would be cool. (And, yes, I do keep a copy of Aja near by as reference CD at all times.)

Jeff - Kaleb has a great voice, but doesn't fit the style as well as yours, IMHO. Also, timing-wise it seems like he's not quite in the groove especially in the first verse. Not way out, but off just enough to make his vocal seem detached from the accompaniment. He also tends to cut phrases too short in places (i.e. "I wish I could think of why I was calling...") Bottom line - I like your voice and interpretation better on this song.

I must say I'm taken-a-back by these comments ;-) Perhaps my mix does not do Kaleb's performance justice, but IMHO, he did a remarkable job making a difficult piece seem effortless. I hope the proper mix does it justice. Ironically, my demo-version was rejected by a producer who considered the song "unsingable" ;-) I think I'll resubmit it to him .... most likely out of spite ;-) thanks for your comments though, I'm factoring in what to do with this song .... jeff PS: Wayne Shorter ... I feel like that scene in Blazing Saddles where some body says "Randolph Scott" and the choir from heaven sings .. same way with Wayne Shorter's name ;-)

A Man and his son were once going with their Donkey to market. As they were walking along by its side a countryman passed them and said: "You fools, what is a Donkey for but to ride upon?" So the Man put the Boy on the Donkey and they went on their way. But soon they passed a group of men, one of whom said: "See that lazy youngster, he lets his father walk while he rides." So the Man ordered his Boy to get off, and got on himself. But they hadn't gone far when they passed two women, one of whom said to the other: "Shame on that lazy lout to let his poor little son trudge along." Well, the Man didn't know what to do, but at last he took his Boy up before him on the Donkey. By this time they had come to the town, and the passers-by began to jeer and point at them. The Man stopped and asked what they were scoffing at. The men said: "Aren't you ashamed of yourself for overloading that poor donkey with you and your hulking son?" The Man and Boy got off and tried to think what to do. They thought and they thought, till at last they cut down a pole, tied the donkey's feet to it, and raised the pole and the donkey to their shoulders. They went along amid the laughter of all who met them till they came to Market Bridge, when the Donkey, getting one of his feet loose, kicked out and caused the Boy to drop his end of the pole. In the struggle the Donkey fell over the bridge, and his fore-feet being tied together he was drowned. "That will teach you," said an old man who had followed them: "Please all, and you will please none."

Jeff!! Dude!! This is beautiful! I'm not going to comment on mix since you said it's rough, but I love the performances. I'm just sad that it's not longer!
