Home Studio 6 and Latency

My set up is Windows 7 32 bit, enough hard drive space and 4gb RAM. MIDI input is from an M-Audio Keystation 88ES into an Audiphile 2496 card. Until I solve this current problem I'm only using the supplied VST sounds.

The problem is one of latency - the few milliseconds delay from me pressing the keys and hearing the sounds, obviously not a viable proposition for recording. I've tried both the ASIO and MME drivers but neither is perfect. Which one should I use, and what other settings should I have? Or would replacing the 2496 be any benefit, and if so with what (at minimal cost)?

Both your devices will require the driver updates which are available ( I looked) There is no reason it should not work under asio with these drivers. There should be no reason to replace the interface if they are still writing drivers for it. Don't you just plug the keyboard in directly with the USB cable? How old is Home studio 6? Might be to old for W7 64 bit.
