Home Studio 7/ Vista / EMU midi problem

I'm can't seem to get a midi signal to my software. I'm using a Alesis QS 7 as a controller hooked up to an EMU 0404 interface. and then into my laptop running Vista premium home edition. The interface is registering a midi in signal but it's not registering on the other end. The audio part of the 0404 seems to work fine. I would really appreciate any ideas as far as what to try. Thanks.

do you have the 0404 MIDI INPUT listed as an active MIDI device?

    OPTIONS>MIDI DEVICES

Also - make sure your MIDI cable is properly installed. MIDI IN goes to MIDI OUT and visa versa

I reinstalled the driver and now it's working. The latency when playing the soft synth is a little surprising, though. Anyhow, thanks for the reply.
