Home Studio upgrade to X1

I just received the e-mail announcing $50 off the normal upgrade price on X1 Studio from Home Studio.  I've always skipped these before but at some point I know I'll bite.  The e-mail only mentions the lower price applying to X1 Studio.  Anyone remember if these deals historically have included a lower price to upgrade to Sonar Producer as well?  Were they the same $50 less than the normal upgrade price or more?  I have deleted the old promos so I can't check.

    I don't know and I don't see anything in the e-store about an upgrade sale.  you could call them and ask.

    Hi Beagle,
    Thanks for the response.  The page on the store still shows the normal price ($149) to upgrade to X1 Studio from Home Studio.  The e-mail I received has a link to the special offer to upgrade for $99.  As a Home Studio user I'd get these upgrade offers every so often.  Usually when these offers came out, people would start a thread here discussing whether it would be worth it to move up to Sonar or stick with Home Studio.  I haven't had luck tracking down any of those old threads or my old e-mails on previous offers.

    What I can't remember is if these special offers have always been on the upgrade to the "Studio" version of Sonar or if there have also been specials on the upgrade to Sonar Producer as well.  I think I'd rather upgrade to X1 Producer.  I e-mailed Cakewalk.  We'll see what they say.

    yeah, you'll probably need to see what cake says.

    I'd say at the very worst you could upgrade to Studio then go with the upgrade path to producer from studio, but I don't know how much that would be - cake might have a better deal than that.

    I looked at taking the special offer on the upgrade to X1 Studio and then upgrading from that to Producer.  It comes out to be $299, which is the normal upgrade price to Producer from Home Studio.  I suspect they might have similar special offers on upgrading from Studio to Producer, but I'd rather upgrade all in one go if possible.

    I also got an email offering a special deal for loyalty customers of an upgrade to X1 Studio for $49 and to X1 Producer for $99. I only have HS 7XL (but have had a farily long purchasing history with Cakewalk, including Dimension Pro, Rapture and a couple of other soft synths), so it seems like a really good offer. On checking the Cakewalk web site, the upgrade price for me would otherwise be around $299.

    I've been using the X1 free trial for the last couple of weeks. At first I wasn't all that impressed and couldn't see what it had to offer over HS (at least in terms of features that I actually use as someone who is still a relative beginner), but a bit more of a play has started to change my mind. The metronome doesn't work in my trial version, so that didn't set a good first impression, i.e. when something as basic as the metronome doesn't work, but hopefully that wouldn't be an issue in the full version.

    Advantages for me with X1 would include:
    TruePianos Amber;
    Session Drummer 3;
    the vocal and percussion strips - they are pretty cool;
    the upgraded step sequencer; the new GUI - takes a little getting used to (coincidentally I've just replaced my monitor, moving to a 27" screen suddenly made the new GUI really good, it was far too cramped on a 22" screen)

    So I think I'll be upgrading before the end of the month.

    Just concerned about the number of bugs that are being reported on the discussion forum.

    Regards

    My 2 cents......

    I decided to upgrade to X1 Studio about 3 weeks ago because of a discount offer I was emailed for the X1 Studio upgrade.  One of the reasons I waited so long to upgrade was due to reported bugs and the fear of having to relearn an entire new software all over again (particularly after stepping backwards with the HS7XL upgrade).    When I upgraded from HS6XL to to HS7XL,  I bought a new laptop with 6gig of ram and 500 gigs of hard drive, and had nothing but drop outs, spikes and latency issues.   Since upgrading to the 64 bit version of Sonar X1, I have yet to experience a single dropout or pop and my latency is at 5.2 ms (though I never  have more than a dozen or so tracks).   I have an old Line 6 Toneport UX-1 audio device running 32 bit PodFarm and an M-Audio Fastract Pro (with 64bit driver) they are both very stable.

    For any of you running on windows 7, 64bit with more than 4 gig of ram and are experiencing low latency or pops, you should really consider the upgrade.   In my case, I feel I can learn the software faster than all the time I spent dealing with the above noted issues.

    Now, back to my training videos......

    IMO the bugs for X1 are no worse than any other previous version.  the only reason that there's so much uproar in the upper forum is because they changed sonar so much this version and people are always resistant to change - especially when it's a major change like this one.

    I"m not sure why coughdog does not experience dropout with X1 under 64bit, but NO I would never promise someone that you would not get dropout, popping, cracking, etc just because you bought X1.

    90% of dropour, popping, stuttering is caused by the soundcard and its drivers coupled with the latency settings in Sonar.

    you should not be getting dropout or stuttering/popping if you're using the Roland DuoCapture.  the drivers should be low enough latency to handle most situations, depending on your settings.  what do you have your latency set to?  which driver mode are you using?

    have you worked with us on getting the settings correct in SHS?  which driver mode are you using?  what is the latency setting?  what do you have set for your PLAYBACK and RECORDING DEVICES in OPTIONS>AUDIO?

    Tony,

    For me HS 7XL was a step backwards and I was disappointed from day one.  My laptop was loaded with Vista and I was experiencing a lot of pops and drop outs.  I then switched to windows 7 and experienced the same frustrations.   I'm now using audio files created in HS 7XL in Sonar X1 with a lot more added effects and I'm not getting the pops or drop outs I was gtting in HS 7XL.  I believe this is due to the extra ram I'm now able to utilize under 64bit.
