Hopefully (!) simple question - How to copy tracks to a different project?
Hello, Apologies for the presumably novice question, but how do I copy a track with all its content and settings from one project to another? I'm just trying to combine different versions of the same project worked on by various members of the band without saving the latest to our shared drive. I know I could create new tracks, copy the clips, midi routings, audio levels, prochannel settings etc. but there must be a simpler way...? Thanks, Piers.

Thanks for the answer, a quick check of the help files and it was obvious once I knew where to look. It does seem odd that there isn't a single command that will copy the content (e.g. audio/midi) as well. You'd think there'd be the option to just copy and paste an entire track in one go. Exporting / importing a track template seems like a very long-winded way of going about a simple operation. Piers.

Open both projects in Sonar. This has to be enabled somewhere in prefs, I think. Simply copy and paste. I seem to remember that sonar even inserts synths if it's MIDI.

Yes but it won't copy your settings, fx plugs, sends etc.

Been asking for track templates with data from the beginning. To combine projects: open primarily project use browser to locate project drag project file to blank area in track view To get just one track: open source project delete all other tracks/synths,... SAVE AS to new name combine projects as above j

OR..... SAVE AS...and give it a new name. This method saves all the settings and synths and FX.... I use this when I plan to do major surgery on the project.

Drag and drop brings in some stuff. Unfortunately not all settings, synths,... combine. Combining projects, and parts of projects, tool included with other DAWs for years. Track templates with data is the way to go. Only a few code changes to do it. X2???????????????????????????

So: as jonesey suggested, start with track templates: open source project create track templates for each track, or set of tracks: this will save settings, routings,... putting tracks into folders by type helps select all tracks in folder and save as track template open target project drag/drop track templates: folders, buses, effects,... will be imported: no data move to source project copy clips and paste: Select track number to hi-light clips, press control-c, check all that apply, click ok move to target project and paste into correct tracks, at zero time

to copy just a few audio tracks.... select the entire track and simply drag them to the new project or use copy/paste after selecting the entire track.

jm24 - I like your comments and method on this topic. Thanks.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.
