Horizontal lock when moving clips between tracks

Is there a way to preserve the start time of a clip when you drag it to a new track?
If quantize is on it snaps the clip to the grid as soon as you start dragging it.
If quantize is off then you have to have a perfectly steady hand to drag it vertically only.
Currently I am copying the clip then right clicking on the new one and pasting in the time of the copied one.

Press Shift or Ctrl while dragging the clip, don't remember which one.

Vertical alignment of clips is pretty easy if you split the clip right on a beat defined in Snap to Grid. Then just drag it to the same spot on another track. If the beginning of the clip is right on a beat then it's simple to move it to the same beat in another track.

Another way is, BEFORE you move the clip to another track RIGHT click the clip and select Clip Properties. Where it shows the clip's START time, double click it to select it then right click and COPY (or ctrl-c). Then drag the clip to the other track. Then RIGHT click the clip, select Clip Properties, double click the start time and PASTE. This will insert the original start time. Click OK and the clip will move to the exact start time it had before you moved it. There are other ways to do the same thing, these are the two methods I use to do it.
