Hotone Xtomp

$249.99 Guitar Effect pedal that can be any one of 300 different
pedals, or even "Combos" of pedals, howbeit they are "predetermined",
meaning you can't "roll your own", which would be even better (maybe
somewhere in the future), which are downloaded via Bluetooth, and iPhone, Android, or PC App,
to send the pedals to the pedal.  It's quite an interesting concept.

Comes in two flavors

Xtomp, which is true stereo, and can do combos, at $249.99, and
Xtomp mini, which is not stereo, and can't do combos, at $149.99...

If you can wait - till Black Friday...
Last year they were on sale for $150, don't know if they'll do it again this year.
and you need to pick up an external power supply, it's not included.

I have a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 on my board to power my pedals.
I really don't use many pedals because most of the effects are built into
my H&K Grandmeister, and I have the Foot Controller for changing banks.

My pedalboard consists of My wireless receiver, my tuner, my compressor,
and my Pitchfork, because we play several songs in full step down, and a
lot of songs in half step, so it's just a matter of flipping a switch rather than
having to retune.  And I use a different guitar for our drop D songs (my PRS).
I HIGHLY recommend the Pitchfork (Electro Harmonix) if you play lower tunings!
You can go way down without retuning your guitar, and it sounds good.

My thoughts are, if the pedal is good enough, I get rid of the compressor,
and use the Xtomp as a compressor and/or reverb, because I want another
Reverb, and they run around $150 to $250.  My Amp has Reverb, but
it's a Spring reverb, and it's decent, but we play Hard/Classic Rock, so it's not quite the
"sound" for the genre LOL!  Amp also has Chorus, Flange, Phase, Delay,
and a built in Noise Gate, which is awesome!  All fully programmable and
storeable, and switchable via the Pedal Controller. Also has Red Box, and power
soak, switchable from "No Speaker" for Redbox, to 1 Watt, 5 Watts, 18 Watts, and
36 Watts, and it's LOUD.  I play my rhythms at 5 watts and my leads at 18 watts
to "cut through", and it works very well.   At 36 watts they could hear me in the
next county.  That thing is WAY louder than my Marshall JCM2000 100 Watt Amp
was.  I can't believe how much power and function they pack into that little package.
I'm running into a Blackstar HT Stage 60, with Celestion V-30's (just the speakers),
and the Blackstar is my "backup" in case something goes wrong (you just never know)

Of course, I have to wait until cash flow will allow, and Sweetwater has the 3 pay option,
which is the ONLY way I could even think about doing it...

It's a pretty cool pedal.
Use it to augment my existing ones.
EG I'll probably never buy a green screamer (should know better than say never) but if I need one it does a rather good job of mimicking one.

Most of the demos I watched were decent.

My thought in considering it was because it basically gives
me just about any pedal I need in ONE BOX, so would eliminate
a lot of the buy - it sucks - return or sell - syndrom.  The fact that
MORE pedals and amps, etc are being added, and that the firmware
is upgradeable, all makes it seem like a good idea, rather than buying
a $200 reverb, a $200 compressor...etc..

If the models are close enough, and usable, than that should be good enough
for me, and save me a ton of time and money.  I don't need them to be "precise",
I just need them to be usable LOL

Premier Guitar has write up in the Aug 2017 issue on the H&K Grandmeister Deluxe 40 and they give it high marks.
It looks like a really nice amp. Haven't checked it out because it's just not in the budget.

Lol - that's an issue that I'm having with everything at the moment.
The problem with having old stuff (house, car, amp, etc.) is that crap wears out, breaks down and 2017 has been a year of breakage - the AC system (2x), my car, dishwasher, etc., etc., etc. If I wasn't mechanically inclined I'd be truly screwed because I'm not making enough to replace this stuff.  As it is I have learned more about repairing air conditioning/heating systems, dishwashers, and other household appliances this year than in the last 20.

Sorry can't really address how good the verb or compressor fx are.
Honestly - I haven't had much of a chance to use it since I got it and I had pedals I was using for those functions before I got my Xtomp so I never really bothered really checking out those flavors.

One thing that is nice about the Xtomp is that they have been added new models at no charge. They added 6 in May and 7 more in June.

That's one of the VERY attractive features of the pedal, is that
they are continuously adding more pedals.  And the fact that the
firmware is upgradeable also is nice.

I totally forgot that it can double as a night light!

Really though I hope it brings you much satisfaction.
You'll have to let us know how it fairs for live usage.

I have found that that is true with lots of today's hardware that has a USB port. Depending on your setup and computer this may introduce ground loops, high frequency noise or other unwanted artifacts into your actual audio signal.

Lars you made me laugh thinking about drop tuning with spring reverb on it. Never thought of it but, yuck!

We need a separate guitar and gear Forum here at Cakewalk. Most guit forums are a breeding ground for knuckle heads but there are loads of good people around here I would love to talk guitar with.
That's all I have to say bout that.

So far it's pretty nice.  I've only used it here at home to get
familiar with it, but it sounds good.  Obviously not "The Best",
but, for the price, and what you get, I'd say it's great value...
and the fact that it "keeps on giving" is pretty awesome as well!
The Amp sims are surprisingly good.  The Pedals are also surprisingly
good.  So,  all in all, I'd say it's decent.  Over 300 pedals and growing
is pretty substantial.

Here's to hoping they develop a way in the future to "create your own
combo's", including Amp AND Cabinet, rather than being stuck with
just an Amp, just a Cabinet, or just an Effect, or one of the Combos they
allow you to use!  That would make this pedal invaluable!
