How Do I Create The Sound of An Album Starting Up for an Intro?

I am using Sonar X1 Producer. I have a single clean electric guitar starting the song. I want to give the illusion it is sitting on a record player with the needle on the record, and then powered up producing a gradual warped start.

That's funny, I ended my first CD back in the early 90's with a record outro like you had forgot to lift the needle. I cheated and recorded a real record!
But try looking in the DJ stuff, they have all sorts of Vinyl emulating plugs. Try the KVR site.

Probably a sonic layer for the record sound with maybe some pitch shifting

You may want to look @ Izotope Vinyl for the record sound and Tapestop for the pitch shift/warped start.

also, when I'm in need - I often go to http://www.freesound.org/ - there are a few turntable sounds in that collection!

Tapestop is the de facto tool for this, though it's a serious pain to automate (got a few buggies).

There's a few other plugz that'll do it, but you can also do it manually with a destructive edit.

Recording a real needle scratching is totally doable. Why not?

try Audacity, a free Windows audio editing app...there's an effect called "Sliding Time Scale/Pitch" that should work for what you describe... (i'm assuming you are not looking for an actual record noise/needle drop like others describe, but a ramping upward tempo/pitch shift)

    dblue TapeStop available here.
This precedes Glitch which now has TapeStop incorporated into it.
Either one will do the trick.
    Similar to Effectrix.

Make a .wav file of the guitar part or at least the amount that you want the intro to be. Stick the file in any .wav player in sonar. Set your pitch bender to however big you want the sweep to be. Start with the bender all the way down when you record and gradually bring it up to the middle (so it will end up in pitch with the track). Season liberally with salt and pepper and serve hot.

I did this on a record I worked on a few years ago..

First I recorded (from a turn table) the needle dropping, then I blended in the guitar track which had Izotope vinyl on it, then for then ending I used tapestop to make it sound like it was spun back..

    Sounded pretty cool..

so +1 for Izotope Vinyl and tapestop.... And they are both free..
