How Do I Uninstall a Quickfix? 255 Ruined X1 (Found Backup)
I just applied quickfix 255 and now X1 will not accept my audio driver... 8.5.3 is still working fine... How do I uninstall (rollback) the Sonar version to 246? I know it's relatively easy, but I've never had to do this before... From not liking X1 to all these pains I still wonder if I'm ever gonna fall in line with X1... <sigh>... Keni Never mind the need for resotre instructions. I found the backup copy (246) and simply over-wrote the new one... All is well once again... Bug for sure! ...on my way to reporter...

Willy Jones [Cakewalk ] I just applied quickfix 255 and now X1 will not accept my audio driver... 8.5.3 is still working fine... Just took a look at your report - does this happen to you in ASIO as well or just WDM/KS ? Hi Willy... I just re-applied the quickfix, allowed sonar to complain and" use outputs anyway", then re-set for ASIO which just loaded fine... Too bad I really dislike running in ASIO for more reasons than I want to get into right now, but at least you've narrowed it down... something related to the wdm/ks driver... SSL/Soundscape Mixtreme 192 Vista32 Hmmm... I was just about to go back to where I was (246) and I set the driver back to wdm/ks.... The system accepted it this time after doing a wave profiler scan! I'm gonna undo everything, and re apply the quickfix once again, then re-run wave profiler and see if it re-establishes itself as it just did... that narrows it down even some more, eh? ;-) Thanks for the double check with me... Oh Well... the above mentioned work around for the quickfix255 issue didn't work... It seems that once I've set to wdm/ks, the next time I re-open Sonar, it complains with the disable/use anyway dialog... If I switch to ASIO, then back to WDM/KS, it goes thru a wave profiler and then works fine. If I close Sonar and re-open it, the complaint is there again and simply running wave profiler does not fix it.... No sound until I first switch to ASIO, then back to WDM/KS followed by the automated application of wave profiler... Back to 246 for me... Thanks again Willy... Keni

Probably something specific to your WDM drivers since this doesnt happen on other devices we tested. What is your default sample rate set to and what is the sample rate of projects you are opening?

What is your default sample rate set to and what is the sample rate of projects you are opening? Hi Noel... I was just thinking... I hope you're not implying that my driver is suddenly not valid for Sonar support? the driver has been working just fine for every version of Sonar that's been out with barely a glitch anywhere in that time... Why would/should the driver work fine for X1a/b/246 and suddenly, same driver no longer working after applying the quickfix 255? It sounds as tho something got changed somehow that has now caused a problem... As we SSL/Soundscape users are fewer these days, does this mean that I'm stuck with this issue and that future version of X1 will not use my wdm/ks driver? If that's the case... I've got a severe problem.... Keni

Tried all of the same things to fix things, 255 still doesn't work here. I'm using an Edirol FA-101, windows XP SP3, 24/48000, WDM driver. 8.5 worked fine (when 255 was in and after reverting to 246), went back to 246 and everything works fine. I doubt if it is a driver issue. It seems more like a problem in the 255 hot fix to me. Jim

No busses soloed or muted... It's not accepting the driver, hence there are no outputs to mute/solo... I'm sorry to hear that you to (Jim) are having the same trouble, but at least it does show that it's not just my driver.... there is something wrong with the quickfix! Keni

I have the same problem here. I'm using a MOTU PCI-424 (with a 24io and a 2408mk3) and a PodXT Pro (Usb connection) under Windows 7 x64. WDM/KS was working before the quick fix, now it forces 44.1/16 and no audio input/output. Switching back to ASIO works. No other changes were made to the machine.

Thanks I'll look into it. Im curious if there is a specific reason you are using WDM with the MOTU. Also do you have any other devices selected in Preferences | Audio | Devices besides the main audio device? Try disabling all inputs and outputs for all but the main device.

really nessessary? I was joking around... it was meant to be light hearted. I sometimes forget that on a forum it may be hard to tell... but I was speaking to Keni as a friend would. (and I believe I thanked CW for all their good work) and Keni... I am really sorry if you thought I was being mean or talking bad about Sonar. You seem like a great guy and Ryan seems to truly care... I meant nothng bad. I know how frustrating something like this can be, you are handling it really well, I thought a little levity might help in my OP but didn't consider I might be misunderstood. I hope you get this figured out SOON. Julien

I needed to record from both PODxt and the MOTU simultaneously. My MOTUs are hard wired permanently into outboard effects and synths. (Basically I didn't want to crawl around to unplug something from my MOTUs in order to plug in the PodXt's audio or SPDIF output when I had an open USB connection on the front of the PC ;) ). I was able to do this with the earlier versions. The current build complains, regardless what inputs or outputs bitrate and depth are selected in WDM/KS mode.

No other devices used here... Just my Mixtreme 192... No problem Julien... No offense taken... Did I sound as tho it had disturbed me? I'm surprised as I didn't feel such... I thought you were being humorous and just let the joke fly... More concerned here as I do not want to run in ASIO as adjusting the latency becomes far too difficult. I need to adjust this often and the wdm/ks slider allows me that... Trying to reset ADIO sample buffer sizes is a royal pain! Keni

Well for starters, ASIO only supports one driver instance, so you cannot have two different devices using two different asio drivers WDM will let you do this, as JS516 above alluded to. Oddly the same thing applies to me with my two different MOTU heads, even though they use the same driver. Since they are different models I have to use WDM. Depending on who wrote the drivers sometimes one works better than the other on different hardware. One has to try both to see how well it runs on your system.

Keni, I can't even use WDM on my system anymore...and using ASIO is a bit of a pain for me also. I think my issue is more a Win 7 issue though and not related to Sonar. I get no sound with WDM no matter how hard I try and Echo actually recommends WDM for my particular card over asio. StarTekh: I can't speak for everyone else, but the reason I like to use it is it allows me to use several cards at once within a project. For example, I use a Layla 24/96, an RME Fireface 800 and a Realtek HD. Each soundcard has outs that go to different monitor configurations. I record with both the Layla and the RME and have outs that go out to different sources. The Realtek is used for consumer monitoring through basic pc speakers. While in WDM mode, I can create output busses to all of these and just send the master bus to the card of my choice while audio is playing. In ASIO mode, I can only run 1 device at a time. Though there is a bit of performance increase in asio vs WDM, I use a mixing console so latency is not an issue for me since direct input monitoring is not done through my cards unless I'm recording a softsynth in real time. So for guys like me, WDM was a blessing. But now I can't use it at all and I had to create quite a few work-arounds that I'm still not totally enjoying nor am I getting used to them as easy as I hoped I would. :(

Hi Danny... Being "stuck" with ASIO scares me... I've never been happy running under it... Back in the Sonar6 and previous days I used an older machine (well, it wasn't old then ;-)) which I still have and run two SSL/Soundscape Mixtreme 192's to give me 32 i/o.... I don't remember running the ASIO driver for them, but I'm sure I did at least try it... For me, the ASIO is simply too difficult to work with/manage... I often need to adjust my latency while working on a piece to deal with CPU overhead vs. latency needs and doing so with ASIO is a PITA! (BTW, why is it that the ASIO panel button in Sonar never works for me when I try ASIO.... I guess it's the way my driver is written? They both seem to work the same (mostly) but issues such as mine above keep me away from it.... along with the lack of support for multiple devices as I often use a Presonus Studiolive along with my Mixtreme.... Of course, Presonus gear only gives full support under ASIO now and WDM has become very limited... Almost useless, so combining them has become a problem above and beyond! I do the best I can... ;-) Don't worry 'bout the "trouble"... I'm sure The Bakers will solve it and rather soon if my guess is right... In the meantime, my work projects go on as normal because I'm still doing all of them in 8.5.3 as I don't trust working in X1... yet? The only work I'm doing in X1 are my own pieces so that I don't feel guilty over the extra time everything takes me in X1 but I'm hoping that will change. Probably not soon as We've heard no word on X1c and X2 is still 6 months away... Thanks again... Keni

(Originally their driver supported full wdm as well) Keni Hi Keni, The ASIO thing scared me at first too, but I'll tell you what I have noticed since switching over to it. VSTi's behave way better for me using ASIO which is a plus and I could never get lower than 2.8ms using WDM when I needed to. Now if I need to, I can get down to 1.3ms I think it is without any issues or drop outs. Not that it's that big a deal for me, but it has been helpful in certain situations. I just miss having all my output driver busses ready to go in Sonar to where I would just select the output in my master bus and send it to anything I wanted on the fly. As far as your ASIO panel button, that's strange. It works for me using both of my cards and it even works on my net pc which runs ASIO4ALL drivers. When I click the panel button in Sonar's preferences, it brings up my ASIO4ALL driver control panel. Yeah it could be how your drivers are written, but I can't say because I honestly don't know anything about that stuff. I just hope you can get your issue resolved. Best of luck to you. :)
