How Does The 'Learn Button' and 'Learn Knob" Commands In The PC FX Chains Work?

First off, really liking the changes in X2 - great job bakers.  I'm now trying to set up a couple of FX Chains in the PC and I see a 'learn button' and a 'learn knob' selection in the edit control feature of the FX Chain but I can't figure out the right sequence to get them to 'learn' anything.   For now I want to assign Breverb's editing functions to buttons and knobs to shrink its size and use it as an FX Chain instead of its standard (too large for the PC IMO) interface. I would also like to know the difference between the buttons and knobs and their intended functions. Any help appreciated.   BTW the workings of the PC and FX Chains would be a great video to produce IMO.

Right-click the control and choose "Learn Knob."  Then move up to 4 parameters on plug-ins that are in that FX Chain.  When you're done, right click the knob again and exit Learn mode.  Then the parameters will be mapped to those knobs.

Sorry, I neglected your other question.  The difference between knobs and buttons are:

A knob allows you to move anywhere between the minimum and maximum of the "learned" parameters that are connected.

A button toggles between the 2 states: Minimum and Maximum.  This allows you to assign to, say, BREVERB's "Wet" control.  Set min on a button to 0, and set max on that button to your preferred setting.  This will cause the button to sort of behave like a "reverb on/off" button.

Thanks Bill - OK Got that - knobs seem easy - what about the 'Learn Button'? I can't seem to get the buttons to do anything but turn on/off a fader in Breverb. What is the purpose of the buttons? Obviously different than a knob but I'm not getting it - slow mind and all. I'd like to select a reverb type with a button is this possible?

Perhaps you missed my second reply?  If not, let me know and I'll elaborate a bit.

Very helpful Bill. Would love to assign a button to different tasks (like changing presets but I see how limiting their function to the existing parameters is efficient. Thanks so much for quick and courteous replies.

The buttons can be used to turn fx controls on or off or alter their state. A button can be assigned to the Sonitus delay "Listen" setting for example allowing you to change between the mix setting and the delay only setting.

Controls can also be set up to control more than one control at a time. Again using the Sonitus delay as an example you can reduce the delay level as the feed back increases.

The SWA video in my sig has a section on setting up FX chains and goes into far more detail than is possible in a forum post.

Apologies for the blatant plug.......... and it's good to see you posting on the forum again BTW.

Hey FBB, Thanks for the tip. Been drooling over your videos and will probably pull the trigger as winter sets in here (it's San Diego so that only means it gets dark early - hardly a real winter) and I become a very amateur music producer again. I did watch the Matrix video you posted and as all the others have said, VERY professional and useful. Keep up the good work.

Downloading the FBB X2 video as I type actually, could do with a bit more "in-depth info" there was so much in X1 that I often forgot about, so always good to learn more in-depth stuff to help with work flow :-)
