How Long Should The New Update Take To Download?

I can't get the CbB update downloaded. I have updated BA to 3.08, but when I try to do the update, the downloading stalls. The word "downloading" pulses slowly, but I have left it for several hours, and it never finishes. I have retried many times to no avail. I tried it with both a broadband cable as well as my wireless device, and the result is the same. I have Microsoft Security Essentials for AV. That has never interfered with downloads in the past, so I don't think that's the problem. The original download went fine. I've logged in and out, rebooted the computer, still the same result.

Mine hung up, too, but after about 5 minutes I closed BA and fired up CW, and all was well.  The add-ons were no problem, they downloaded and installed in a matter of minutes.  This process could be improved for sure, but this update is worth it for me.

    All the best,

Still no luck here. It just keeps giving me the "downloading" pulsing-thing, but nothing downloads. I can keep it going indefinitely apparently, with no result. I'm wondering if it's an internet connectivity problem, though I've never had that problem before.

My initial install went ok, it's only this update that is proving problematic.

MAYBE NOT A GOOD IDEA! See below...
    Uninstal CbB, reinstall CbB.
Several, me included, had the dl “stall”. Check the sticky thread above.

Mine didn't work either, Because it has no progress bars it's a huge waste of time.
I give up, I will wait until they work the bugs out of the installer.

Well, I unistalled and attempted to reinstall. It said it was downloading, 0/3, then went to 1/3 then 2/3, then - nothing. I now have nothing. It is kindly offering to do the same thing again. I knew I should have left well enough alone. Now I can't even work on my projects. Great.

BandLab assistant reported that CbB was still installing but everything was already installed. I don’t know about the verbose installer as I received no feedback about the 8nstallation at all.
Have no idea where the Theme editor is yet but I’m still working on finding stuff and copying over to CbB eg. the FX presets etc from Splat.

Same here the Assistant just hangs and hangs on download, no progress bar so no indication if download is happening.
Re-installed Assistant numerous times, cleaned out possible registry entries still nothing.

The only way I could get it to work was to log out of BLA, then log back in again.

Haven't you people learnt anything over the years ? :)  You never want to be first, or one of the first 10 000-100 000, to download new software. Let others figure out the kinks and problems and THEN when the dust settles, you install it.

My SPLAT works perfectly still. Seems I am getting closer to being able to install the new version, but not just yet it seems. Patience is a virtue.

Download took me ~ 1/2 hour.  Would rather not repeat the download on my main daw.  Is it possible to copy file over using flash drive?  I couldn't find the download file.  My main daw is on the internet...

Note the installer ran but now the Assistant just says Installing... just needed a reboot.

Worked for me here, whole process (download + install) took less than 10 minutes.

However, I had first gone to the site and downloaded BLA 3.0.8, then ran it.

I did that too, didn't make any difference, I'm in agreement with Tobias in a way.
But I have CbB first release working juts fine and would like the bug fixes.
I will just wait until next weekend when I might have more time and the servers might not be as hard hit.

In which folder does it downloads the "temp files" for the install? It's not in the downloads folder 'cause the last band lab related file in the April 4th download.

Yeap...it is very strange to "forget" a progress bar" in these "modern" times. I guess it will be considered a DAW fix in a near future. 'xcuse me but he installer is a "annoying tool to get to be stuck with an on-line installation.. It shouldn't be considered as a DAW bug fix.

That said, I reviewed the update content and I'm glad to see the focus on bug fixes. I just hope the spend more ficking "old running" bugs and not just newly introduced ones.

And yes I'm gald someone took over the software.

    Hi,
After BandLab Assistant refused to download the installers on my 'music computer' I managed to download the files onto my modern laptop.
I found the files in users/username/AppData/Roaming/bandlab-assistant/downloads.
Copied files onto USB stick then installed on my 'music computer' all good.
Not sure if copying files is a violation of license for personnel use apologies in advance.

I have it back on my computer, though I'm not sure which version it is. I did the following:

Hard boot after computer being off all night and morning.
Plugged wireless device into different slot.
Closed Bandlab page when it opened up.
    Declined all add-ons.

Not sure which, if any of these, helped, but it downloaded and installed in about 30 minutes. This time, there was only one file to download, so the "progress bar" only read "0/1." Maybe it was too much to expect to download all three packages, when so many people are hitting the servers.

The version I now have is 24.04.1 build 28. I think that is the new one. It played fine, except for the weird zapping noise I have been having problems with, but that's another story.

Just a tip for those who has problem installing, it *could* be permission problem. I know, it seems obvious since my Windows DAW only has one account (primary used) and it is already assigned as administrator, however running the application as administrator makes sure I run trouble free installation. Even when I log in using administrator account, Windows keeps asking often time that I need administrator right to perform many things (like copying files to specific folder). So, when I saw new update available, I quit Bandlab Assistant, then re-open it as administrator before updating. I believe at some point of the installation / update, the installer needs access to certain folder which requires admin right. I suspect this is where many people get "stuck". Same thing with CbB installation. I did not let the installer open the program for the first time after installation process, instead I close it then re-open (for the first time after installation) as administrator. Then I continue doing next steps like re-scanning VST, managing plugin layouts, etc. Everything is trouble free that way. Once everything seems run perfectly, then I close CbB and run as usual. Just a tip, hope it helps.

Good tip, James, I'll hopefully remember it. We must always remember that Windows is like an overprotective parent. Except in Windows 10, where it is more like an obnoxious uncle. Fortunately, I only have to contend with the overprotective parent.

It would be nice if Bandlab would provide some guidance on possible installation issues. I hope we hear from them on why so many had problems with this update. They have been amazing so far, especially considering this is a free product. But since they have indeed taken on the continued life of Cakewalk, they must know that its users have huge expectations. Hey, wasn't that a book by Charles Dickens?

Did you try temporarily disabling your antivirus/security program before install?  Helps for me in most cases.

John, I did try that, it didn't help. But I have never found MSE to cause problems in this regard. But I did get it installed at any rate. The only thing is, I lost all my configurations, since I uninstalled the original CbB. As a result, the noise that has been plaguing me has returned, and I don't know why. All in all, I should have never updated. I need to go back to my former MO, which is, don't update just for the sake of updating. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I know what you mean.  I wasn't eager to update either, for that very reason.  I didn't want to "upset the apple cart" because everything was working so well with X3. But I held my breath and did it.  Fortunately, for me, it wasn't a big deal.  IMHO, the DAW is awesome.

Re: How Long Should The New Update Take To Download? 2018/04/30 02:23:37 (permalink)
Look, it's should not be THIS HARD to update software. I tried again a few hours ago. I did all things mentioned here that might help.Logged out of the assistant, logged back in. Ran as Admin. It simply say's Downloading and nothing ever happens. Still have Version 24-04-0  ( yes 24-04-1 is the latest )
I'm sure they will sort this out. I can only think of the thousands of people out there getting totally turned off Cakewalk by Bandlab right now.

SO I followed the pathway and found where the downloads go. You can see in the address bar of my screen shot. There was a Cakewalk file from today. When I clicked it said it was already in use. So I closed the Assistant. And When I clicked I got this

SO does anybody know how big the file is supposed to be? You can see below how big mine was.

SO I deleted them all and I'm running the whole thing again.
There does not seem to be an option on what you download as far as I can tell. You can see it is downloading a file called instruments. That's what you get if you click the big green download button. I just did that with this folder open after I deleted the originals. Both the Cakewalk.exe and Instruments.exe are back but right now show as 0 kb.
Oh , look at this,, The assistant was showing downloading but as I typed this it now shows installing.. I just looked in the above folder and Cakewalk.exe is now 5,644 kb. The instruments are 152,602KB SO why was the versions above totally different file sizes. both of them?

And now the assistant shows nothing happening just like before.
