How To Add VST Plugins

I've downloaded some VST Plugins.  I put them in the VST folder.  I tried the VST Rescan.  I tried VST Configuration Wizard.  I tried closing and re-opening Music Creator 6.  I still don't see the plugins in my project.  I'm looking in the Audio FX choice in the FX bin of an audio track.  I'm new to Music Creator so I may be missing something very basic here.  Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Make sure to install the 32bit version of the plug-ins. My best guess given the info provided.

You also need to use the PLUG IN MANAGER. Open it and add the new plugs ( the folder where the DLL file is located and installed) to the list and then run a scan.

After the scan, open a project and try loading one into the proper audio FX bin.....

They should show up at that point in the plugin's list that are available to you.

scook: 32-bit?  It looks like that's the problem.  I used 64-bit because my Windows 7 is 64-bit.  I just tried one of the 32-bit plug-ins and it worked.
Guitarhacker: I hadn't seen that.  I'll check it out.
Thanks mucho, Steve

Even though the OS is 64bit, MC is a 32bit application so you need to use 32bit plug-ins with it. Seemed like you were doing everything else right (i.e. dlls in the VST scan path and running the VST scanner). Glad you got it figured out.

The plug in manager is simply the way to get the plugs into the scan path.  I have my startup scan shut off for a faster boot into Sonar...... so if I add something, I must go through the entire process and scan.

Guitarhacker: That's a good idea.  I just shut mine off for a faster boot, too.  I can re-scan if I add a new plug-in.

scook: I just completed the re-install of the 32-bit versions and it all works.  I had to do one more trick, though.  The 64-bit versions had failed and when I replaced them with the 32-bit versions they still didn't appear after rescan.  But I remembered there is a checkbox on the VST settings to re-scan failed plug-ins.  I checked that and then the rescan found the new versions.

Thanks for the help.

You could also perform a reset and rescan. The reset butten deletes the entire VST Inventory in the registry then the scanner builds the entire Inventory from scratch.
