How To Load Guitar Rig

Can anyone tell me how to use / load Guitar Rig 4 into X1?   How do I "upload" it into the project so that I can apply some effects and amps to the guitar tracks that I have to work with.

When I go to the plug-ins page in X1 and use the "auto-find" feature, it's still not "finding" it.  And it's sitting right there on the desktop.

What gives?  I'm sure I'm missing something basic here.  Anyone?  Thank you.

Not sure if you are using a 64 bit OS, but if you are, here is a possible solution:

In my case, when installing Guitar Rig, the installer loaded both 32 bit and 64 bit .dlls into the 64 bit section of Windows Program Files under Cakewalk/VST Plugins/Guitar Rig.  When I initially tried to load the Guitar Rig plugin running the 32 bit version of X1, it couldn't find the plugin.

To fix, copy the 32 bit .dll folder over to the 32 bit section of Windows Program Files in your preferred plugin folder that is scanned by X1.  X1 should find it then.

Thanks.  Gosh, I knew it would be something as simple as loading it through the Effects bin.  Thank you.  I forgot about that.  I looked in the browser at the available effects and couldn't find it there.  But the loading through the effects bin seems to have worked.

Now, should I "upgrade" from Guitar Rig 4.1 to 4.2?  The last time I tried it, I couldn't get the install to work...and that's when Guitar Rig actually disappeared altogether.  Now that I have it again and it appears to be running in Sonar X1, should I bother upgrading or just stick with the 4.1 version?  Thanks!!!!  Great board.  I love that you can put up a question and within a minute or two have the correct solution!

Oh @#$%.  Knew there'd be a catch.  Ok, so it loaded into X1 just fine, great....but there is NO CONTENT...no presets.....no amps...no effects....no anything....that I can find.  Just weird, I tell ya.  Do you have to load the "content" separately or what?

It can also be configured as synth. I do this so that I can have a separate MIDI track to control Guitar Rig. And yes, do upgrade. :)

content should be loaded automatically when you load GR.  I would also recommend the update to the latest version.  kw has some good advice, too, regarding 32 vs 64bit.

Yeah, that puzzled me when I first loaded it up.  You have to go ahead and upgrade.  Once you do that, the content will show up.

Just beginning with X1 Producer, upgraded to X1C, and Guitar Rig 4 upgraded to 4.2.1.
How do you configure GR as a synth? Would this then be usable in a midi track FX?

A newbie here, so details on exactly how do t this would be much appreciated...THANKS!

I'm having problems with this thing too.  I've activated it and loaded it OK  but no presets or anything are showing up.  You mention an upgrade - what is that and how do I get it?  The PC I run X1 (and GR4) on is not connected to the internet.   Thanx for any advice.

PS - Funnily enough GR4 is working OK on the Corey Yarckin Cakewalk demo - though still no presets are showing up.

Sorry didn't realise this was originally an old thread but would still appreciate any advice thanx.

Funny, I just had the same problem, nothing showed up. You _do_ need an internet connection to upgrade, which fixed my problem. If you can connect at some time, go to Start-Native Instruments-Guitar Rig 4-Service Center. In Service Center popup, choose to upgrade, in my case I got version 4.2.1

After that, all presets and and instruments showed up!

I got frustrated by this same problem when I restored my PC and there is a post out here somewhere about it. Open the program called Service Center in your Native Instruments folder in the Windows Start Menu. (You do this outside of Sonar.) Go to the Overview tab. There you can Upgrade or Activate—depending on your situation—by clicking on Guitar Rig and entering the serial number. (In my case it was Upgrade since I was going from the built-in free version to the purchased full version.) Then all the components will be there automatically in Sonar. It is not hard but it is NOT obvious. This all assumes you got through Install OK and picked the correct driver. For me I believe it was the second choice in the Install program. If memory serves, the first choice is stand-alone only and the third choice is for those who have NI's hardware interface.
