How can I Record Reaktor Newscool in Sonar X1?
If I load Reactor 5 into Sonar X1 as a vsti, and load up the Newscool ensemble, when I hit the transport button (on Sonar) the instrument starts to play. I can hear the output from the synth as it plays, so the audio engine is working. I can record the output from synths such as Carbon in Sonar. I can also record the midi output from Sprial in Sonar and use it to control Cakewalk and other vsti synths. However, I cannot record the output from this ensemble within Sonar (I can do so in Ableton Live 8 simply by routing the output from the midi track to an audio track and recording the audio track). I have tried 1. routing the output to an audio track and recording it, and 2. routing the audio output to my M-Audio USB fastTrack audio interface, and then selecting this as an input to an audio track , but although I can hear the music and record a wave file, the wave file is silent! Does anyone have a solution to this? I hope it is a simple routing or options setting to resolve, but I can't find it anywhere. Hoping to hear a solution soon Regards Rogerl_uk

One quick work around is to record from within Reaktor itself and then export that WAv back into your Sonar timeline (basically resampling)

Hi Markynzo Thanks for your quick reply. This is what I have done in the past, but I am trying to avoid this as a solution. It just seems to be a bit of a clunky solution as I have to open Reaktor, record the wave file, then import it into Sonar. Compare this to Live - Set input on audio track to midi track containing Reaktor, then start recording.

I have no idea if this would work, but I dimly recall someone taking such a synth and doing something with re-configuring it to allow insertion as an effect, and in conjunction with an audio track somehow getting it all to work like you are intending to do. I wish I had a better brain - I will finish my coffee and try to dig into this - perhaps someone else's memory is better and can jump in with a more useful explanation. Bob Bone

Just opened up a project where I have this working....
My Main Reaktor track input is Reaktor 1 stereo, out put is going to the master bus.
Then I have a track called "RETURN" and the input track is my ASIO MIX RETURN (MOTU Audio Express) and the output track loops back on itself to "RETURN"
Dont ask me how I figured this out, I just kinda fudged it.

A simpler way to do this: Insert Reaktor as a VST synth in Sonar, load Newscool with your created preset, create a MIDI note(doesn't matter which note) of the length of the pattern you wish to create within the associated MIDI track in Sonar, and freeze the synth. The reason this works: Sonar expects that a synth will have MIDI input when it attempts to freeze. Newscool doesn't need MIDI input. The dummy MIDI note determines the time period in which Newscool creates output. Advantages of using this method: Newscool will sync to the project and no importing or confusing audio routing.

To be honest I have no problem with the exporting audio method of using grooveboxes in Reaktor. Once you have the workflow down it's quick and easy.
However I just wish the whole Reaktor "snapshot" thing was less awkward to use, because otherwise I would much prefer to control grooveboxes with MIDI. I tried it once with Aerobic and got discombobulated very quickly.

Thanks to all, especially Bentleyously whose suggestion prompted me to achieve what I wanted with his suggestion. The only difference I did was to bounce the Reaktor track to a new track, so now I have a wave that I can process. Sharke, yes it is pretty easy, but just not as quick as the Ableton Live approach.

Glad that my suggestion helped you. Your question inspired me to revisit Reaktor and I've been really enjoying exploring some of the free-download instruments. So, thank you for a push in a different direction! Bentley Ousley

Me too! Just sketched a few bits with the mighty reaktor thanks to this thread

I think Limelite is my fave Reaktor groovebox at the mo. So gritty!
