When I managed the restaurants, I only did interviews between 2-4PM and if someone stopped by during lunch time and ropped a resume, it went into the trash. I asked about that to the Employment Office, and they said it was ok. Leaving a resume, or application on a desk is not considered an interview or attempt!

Not like they cared, it still counted as an "attempt" while they continued to receive their 99 weeks of unemployment benefits.

BTW, I was late 5 minutes to the interview... and I got the job anyway. (I had an excuse though)

Maybe these late people shouldn't turn their clocks back.

I find this bad attitude to work very much confined to kids of American extraction (in my experience in this country...it's the same with young Brits as well). I've hired a lot of South Americans, mainly Columbians and a few Brazilians (all legal and above board mind you!) and have found their work attitude to be completely different. I never get "I can't work today I have a cold" calls from them, they never complain or get stroppy with me, they're never late and they seem very grateful for the work. I just hired a new kid, 20 years old, Columbian. Keen like you wouldn't believe. He keeps saying "thank you so much" for hiring him. My kind of employee :)

Lateness hate it.

Remember back in the 90's when they gave trophies out to all the kids in sports because everyone was a winner and then they all went out for pizza and ice cream after words. Also, the whole if you spank your child it's child abuse started.

Well look how they've all grown up!

Fantastic!

I had a teacher in college who used to drive this point home.... To be early is to be on time and to be on time is to be late and if your late then you're screwed.

He was right. No one should be hired for coming to an interview late with out a phone call and like a really good excuse of an accident or something like that.

Then again I don't have employees and don't look at the pool of people to choose from so...... I can see not having a choice but to hire a late person cause they are all late.... Which is a picture of some of the problems in this country. Not to get political just saying ..... I agree with you guys... Not cool to be late
