How do I connect a subwoofer to the VS-100?
I can't see a dedicated sub connector on the vs-100. My first guess is to connect it to output 3-4 and use an extra bus together with my main outs. Is there another way? My monitors is a pair of M-Audio BX-5. No sub out on them either.

Hmm, we'll just have to wait and see if someone has a solution. Maybe one of the CW crew has one? Anyway, thanx for replying!

Are you trying to do 5.1 or 7.1 recording? If not, then there is no need for a dedicated sub output. In a standard stereo recording, the sub is just the sum of left/right - with only the low freq getting to it. It is part of the signal chain after the power amps & x-overs. Surround has a dedicated sub channel. I have never tried 5.1 recording in Sonar, but since the VS-100 has 6 analog outs, could they not be configured any way you want? (I could be wrong on this, I'm just throwing it out there) 1/2: Stereo Left/Right 3: Sub 4: Center 5/6: Left/Right Rear

Aaah! So what you are saying is that I can just plug the sub to out 3, then I'm good to go? I'm not trying to do sorround. I just want audiable bass. The BX-5a's are not digging deep enough :) Thank you!

just thinking out loud here... your idea of a dedicated sub-buss routed to 3-4 (or 5-6) sounds good to me. if you require that signal to be a "sub out" you can put a low pass filter on the sub buss, that is if your sub it's self is not crossed over.

The BX-5a's are not digging deep enough :) Thank you! Sure - you could just add a sub to channel three, then turn it up to hear more low end when you want. However, that still sends full range to the BX-5a's, and that is not ideal. There are better alternatives to this, but if you already have a powered sub, this might be the easiest and safest. Edit: Didn't M-Audio used to make the BX-10 sub? It would likely be ideal for the BX-5a's and would likely have the ability to hook up "properly" with them.

I am not a guru on using buses, but yeah. I think you can use a bus for that. I am a complete beginner at certain things in Sonar, and buses are one of the things I just have to study. Even the simplest little thing as ducking boggles my head. That's the price for having a full-time job and trying to master music at the same time :) Edit: This was the reply to M@ B. I'll try a bit of both when I come home :) Thanx, guys!

Powered studio subwoofers have crossovers built inside them, so the signal flow usually works like this ... Audio Interface 1 + 2 --> Subwoofer Inputs Subwoofer Outputs --> Monitor Inputs Manually set crossover point on Subwoofer according to setup The only scenario where you would connect the Subwoofer to its own output from the VS-100, like output 3, would be if you were mixing in surround. In that case, you would set up the surround parameters in SONAR and use the internal crossover in SONAR for LFE control, etc. SP

What Seth has described very clearly above is what I was trying to hint at when I kept saying there are better ways to do it. I just couldn't find the words to explain what I was thinking! Thanks Seth!

i currently do not use a sub, but at one time i did, though it was not active and was crossed over externally as well. the suggestions i offered were general and based on the info given by the op. he did not say that the sub it's self had high-pass stereo outs. thanks for clarifying.
