How do I display percussion patches in the Midi Note window of the Percussion Notation key?

I write my drum parts in staff view. Clicking the Layout button opens the Staff View Layout window. Clicking the percussion settings button opens the Percussion Notation window. On the left is the Midi Note panel and to the right of that is the Display As panel. In the Midi Note panel are two columns of identical midi notes. How can I get one of the columns to display the percussion patch so, for example, it would look like A# clave instead of A# A#?

You have to set the track for Channel 10 which is the default for drums.

I believe you have to have the track output set to a drum map for it to display properly. I know this is true to get a percussion view in the piano roll.

Does your Channel 10 say "General MIDI Drums"? If not, you don't have your instrument mapping setup properly.

If not, go to Options-Instruments. Click on the Output/Channel for Channel 10 and then click on Uses Instrument: General MIDI Drums. Then it will work.

This is covered in the Chapter on Using Instrument Definitions in the Help menu-Contents

Hi I have again upgraded to another sonar version (x1) but still run into the same problem every time i jump up:  In staff view>percussion>percussion settings, my note binding settings have NEVER showed up in the load list forcing me to re-bind midi notes to staff notes.  It's kind of a pain.  Is there a way i can retrieve these settings i have saved in previous versions?  I've tried windows searches but still can't find them.

I'm not following you, could you give me some more details on exactly what you're having to do?

in the staff view, you can click layout (for x1 it's edit > layout) which opens a new dialog.  you can then select your type of staff ie. treble, bass etc.  within that list you can also select percussion or percussion line.  i use percussion.   when you click the percussion settings button it takes you to the part where you can bind your midi notes to staff notes of your choice and also edit the type of noteheads, stems and symbols you prefer.  After building your staff, you can type in a name of that set and save it which now gives you another choice in your dropdown selection to load that set.  GM Standard Percussion is always there by default.  my question is: (1) where is that file saved? (2)  How can i recover it when I install a new version?  Thorough Cakewalk, Pro Audio, and Sonar, I have always had to 'rebuild' my layout settings.  I asked about this a long time ago.  Still looking.

    Thanks In Advance.  Pat
