How do I drag a midi file into a midi track in Home Studio 7?

Hi guys,

I am trying to drag midi files (drum grooves) into my Kontakt midi piano roll.  (Steven Slate drums)

When I drag the groove and drop it where I want, instead of snapping into the existing Kontakt piano roll, it just creates a new midi track.

Try just dragging it into the track rather than the piano roll view it should snap in.

I tried that.  I think it is an issue with Steven Slate/Kontakt not handling a general midi file when I try and just drag it in.

As it stands I have to drag it in, then copy the new midi track it creates back into the Kontakt track and it works.  It should be a one step process, but i have to do 3 steps.

I don't know how the steven slate drums work for sure but im assuming that they function basically as a soft synth (like tts-1) could you drop the midi file in a blank midi track then rout the output to the drums? you will have an extra track but it might be easier. Provided thats how it works pleas correct me if im wrong.

Here is a desktop recording of my issue.

You can see when I drag the groove to the Steven Slate Drums track, it ends up on track 11 which is a wav track.

When I try a different groove designed by Steven Slate, you can see it drags in perfectly.

I mean why does it end up on track 11?  It's not selected/linked etc etc.

for MIDI it will depend on the informaiton in the MIDI track where sonar puts it.  if it already has a channel assignment it will translate that into a relative track assignment.

try moving the MIDI track to the bottom of all of the tracks, or insert a new MIDI track at the bottom then try to drag and drop it.

sonar might still add several tracks and put it later than that one, but it won't be on top of anything else and you can delete the extraneous tracks.
