How do I get Waves plugins to work in X1 64???
I just bought my first waves plugin, the Kramer MPX, and after 4 hours of frustration with both the ilok and waves plugin, I still have nothing working. HOW DO YOU DO THIS? Is there something special I have to do, as far as installing? I have no clue, and can't find anything on the net to help me.

Waves plugins are not 64-bit compatible - doa search on the forum, but I'm pretty sure others have got them working in a 64-bit environnment by using J-Bridge...

Yes, you can get them working, and you don't need anything other than what comes with Sonar. They're 32-bit plug-ins, so you need to install them in an x86 plug-ins folder, and you need Sonar to scan that folder as part of its hunt for VSTs. Waves' method of installing plug-ins is pretty confusing AFAIC because they don't really give you an overview of the process. What happens is that there's a Waveshell that serves as a "container" for the plug-ins you own. The Waveshell is the .dll that goes into your plug-ins folder, NOT the plug-in .dll files; the individual .dll files go into a Waves folder located in your x86 PROGRAMS folder, not the VST plug-ins folder. So why do they do it this way? Well, it makes it easier to add plug-ins in the future, as well as update plug-ins. It also means all of this can happen online via their WOLI.exe program. When I switched over to x64, I basically downloaded WOLI, checked the plug-ins I own, and Waves put the right stuff in the right places. Waves tech support is pretty good. If you continue to have problems, contact them and they'll walk you through the procedure. Good luck!

They work fine in sonar 64 bit (bit bridge) ... But I went through hell getting them to work. Good luck with Waves support. I had to do the following before any of them would work. The Wave shell would work correctly until I did the following reg hacks. I'm not sure if this is a win7 problem or what, but it took me several days to figure out how to get them working: Run regedit Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Filter Right click on the folder and click PERMISSIONS Select your user and Allow all permissions This is the only thing that worked for me. Hope it helps you. Cheers,

jamescollins Waves plugins are not 64-bit compatible - doa search on the forum, but I'm pretty sure others have got them working in a 64-bit environnment by using J-Bridge... Sorry ol pal, that's not true. I run a good number of Waves plugs, including the new MPX, with little or no problems in X1 64bit. To the OP: First, make sure your license has been transfered to your iLok. When you buy a waves plug you have to register it at the waves site...they then deposit a license in your iLok account (you did setup an ilok account, right??) which you then download to your iLok. Then you simply download the way too complicated waves WOLI version 8 installer and choose and install (in your case) ONLY the MPX. Then you reboot your computer! Then you have X1 scan your VST folders making sure that the folder where waves installs your VST is included in the scan list. Then you should be good to go. HTH.

Hey there My Ole Pal, I did all of that, ilok, registration stuff, but I think maybe Im not scanning in the right folder. I found the mpx.dll and scan that, but I don't think i made cakewalk scan the folder where the waveshell was. Im gonna try that when I get home

Hi David, FWIW, When using a 64Bit DAW, it's important to pay attention to exactly where the VST plugin dll is being installed. There's absolutely no standard for the install process. Some create their own plugin folder, others ping the registry, some install both the 32Bit and 64Bit dll in the same folder, etc. I like to keep 32Bit and 64Bit dlls separate (one folder for 64Bit VST plugins and a second for 32Bit VST plugins). This way you have separate control over 32Bit plugins (which have to be bridged to work in a 64Bit host). Once you get the organization sussed out... you'll be good-to-go.

Is there anything I need to do to bridge them? Or does sonar do that automatically?

Is there anything I need to do to bridge them? Or does sonar do that automatically? BitBridge handles the bridging "behind the scenes" (no user input necessary). If you encounter a 32Bit plugin that's not coping well with being bridged... it'll be pretty obvious. In that (rare) scenario, you can try using jBridge (3rd party bridging application - ~$23) just for that particular plugin.

If you contact Waves support, be sure to ask if they support bridging in 64 bit XP. I have quite a few Waves plugs running under W7 64 bit, and have never had any problem whatsoever.
