How do I increase the volume of a track at a particular measure in Sonar?

I want to increase the volume of a MIDI track at a particular measure after the song starts.  How do I do this?

thanks!

The MIDI standard uses Continuous Controller 7 for volume. Few plug-ins adhere to the MIDI standard completely but CC7 is pretty common. Read about how to work with CC data here. The link is for the X3 help pages. That is the most recent version I found you mentioned using in a previous thread. Please make sure when posting to specify which DAW and version the question is about.

Volume may be automated on the audio track too.

Yes, I am aware that CC7 is for volume.  I am running Sonar X3.  I have a MIDI piano track set to volume 15 at the beginning of the song.  On Measure 14 I want to increase the volume to 55.  The MIDI track is already saved.  I tried hitting record and increasing the volume of the recorded track but that didn't work.  I don't see in the link you provided how to do this.

You could use automation for CC7. It does work.

No idea how that is done.  Anyway... I accomplished what I wanted to do using my old Kawai Q80X.

Yeah, that is the first way mentioned in the link above

SONAR lets you enter or edit controller, xRPN, and automation data in several ways:
    • Using envelopes in the Track view

Hopefully the OP is not confusing velocity with volume. I doubt it since they already know about continuous controllers. If CC7 data is already in the clip, the second method mentioned in the link "Using "Using the Piano Roll view and Inline Piano Roll view" may be a better choice.

I'm using the  Bandlab version of Cakewalk. I can't recall what was in X3. Its been awhile. However, you can automate most common CCs using the automation lane that can be toggled on using the icon at the bottom left on the track header. I'm pretty sure X3 had that too. It called a filter with automation.

For future reference here is the documentation on automation.

Thanks for the documentation link.  I played with it and seem to have it working.  Question...when I save the MIDI file after using automation for CC7 does it save the information to the MIDI file?  Meaning, if I use automation to move the volume fader up does the increase in volume get saved to the MIDI file?

CC7 automation is converted to MIDI CC7 data and is included with the rest of the MIDI data when saving a project as a MIDI file.
