How do I know if I have a 64 bit plugin loaded by mistake? Since i have a 32 bit daw?

I have dozens of plugs.

Is there an easy way to check if I loaded a 64 bit plug instead of the 32 bit plug?

Thinking of re-loading and re authenticate each one is keeping me up at night.

I would say if your OS is 32bit (as opposed to running 32bit SOANR in a 64bit OS), then you can't possibly have a 64bit plug installed. I believe (and I could be wrong) newrly all 64bit plugs search to see if your OS is 64 bit.

Someone smarter (and prettier) may correct me (which is ok).

If the plug in has an installer it won't install a 64 bit plug on a 32 bit system.

If its a cheapo where you just drag a DLL into a folder then it would be possible to have a 64 bit version. But it would not work.

Most of the old, cheap plug-ins are going to be 32 bit. When there are 32 and 64 bit versions the DLL name is often used to differentiate between the two.

    ^^^^ THIS ^^^^

    You can sleep easy again.

Only if you are running both a 32 bit and 64 bit system say on Windows 7 there becomes a need to be methodical where you put your VST's as Sonar's excellent included bridging could be loading the 32 bit versions unannounced.

I set up my scanned folders this way.

(note your Drive letter may differ from mine)

    Sonar 64bit

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VSTPlugins (Sonar default VST install directory)
    C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins (64 bit Specific plugs)
C:\Program Files (x86)\VST Bridged (32 bit bridged plugins.)

    Sonar 32bit

C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\VSTPlugins (Sonar 32 bit default VST install directory)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins (32 bit Specific plugs)
C:\Program Files (x86)\VST Bridged (32 bit plugins to share with the 64 bit version)

That way when there is ONLY a 32 bit version of a plug-in I can still use it in the 64bit DAW if required as the C:\Program Files (x86)\VST Bridged folder I've set-up is the only one shared with both DAW versions.

Why are you using the x32bit DAW in a 64 bit system are for me the biggest question?
Anyway, I only knows how a 32bit plugins looks under bitbridge in SONAR x64..
As you can see in this example in this picture below. The top Windows frame are in BLUE when it is under bitbridge.

He didn't say he was and also didn't list his specs so how are you assuming a 64bit system.

I'm running both because I can...

And to me 32bit really matters as I like to use rewire.

    Freddie,

    Does it really matter?

BTW, the OP did not state if he is running a 64bit system.

I rename & add either a x64 or x86 at the end of the vst's folder file name. It helps me avoid confusion, usually when I need to delete or add certain dlls between the 2 types. You can do a similar thing in Plug in Manager too.

Or, uninstall the 32 bit version and cut the 64bit in half?

I did beat you... because I use the IE x64bit browser. 2x times faster then IE x32 or firefox.
By the way, Flashplayer are now available in X64bit for all your that haven't figure that out yet.

He must be, any installer.exe wont allow you to install any x64bit plugins on a x32bit system..

But like some Voxengo plugs for example, he could drag a 64 bit dll in the wrong place...

Having only a 16 bit brain I am capable of doing such a thing.

    Sorry peeps.  I have win 7 64

The reason I have not upgraded to 64 bit is because I kinda hate Sonar X1 compared to Sonar Home Studio 7.

And to upgrade would be an extra $150 to get 64 bit compatibility.  Which IMO is daylight robbery.

Okay! You should try it. Have you try out the trial version of SONAR X1?
