How do I make the Send effects Pan knob visible in 8.5?
How do I make the Send effects Pan knob visible (in Sonar 8.5 console view)? I know it must be there somewhere because old projects that I started in Sonar 6 come up in 8.5 with both the Send effects Gain and the Send effects Pan knobs. However, the new templates in 8.5 have no Pan control for the Send effects. I’ve tried to find it in hidden menus but no luck. Also, the old Sonar 6 projects come up in 8.5 with the round effect send dials, which I prefer, whereas the 8.5 send gain is a slider. How do I get back to the round dials?

The Send Pan control is a slider. I have never seen it otherwise in 8.5. Have you tried using these old projects to make templates?

Thanks Chappel I was actually referring to the Console view (see brackets first sentence of post). I will have look into how to make screenshots like you; I saw the link on your page. I guess I could make templates easy enough; problem now is how to get the send pan into quite an elaborate project already started in a standard 8.5 template.

Here are the Send-Pan controls in both the wide and narrow console views. The wide view has a "knob" type of control that may be similar to what you are looking for. The key to making/posting screencaps is to know how to use an image editing program. Specifically, how to crop, resize and add text and other objects. Photobucket has these features but I prefer doing it on my computer and uploading the finished product. I use Corel Photo-Paint but most of what I do can also be done with the free Windows Paint program. I hit the PrtScn key and this copies what I see on my monitor into the Windows clipboard. Then I use New From Clipboard in the Corel program to create a new document with the image in it. Then I just need to crop it. The Microsoft program is similar. Just open it and click Paste.

The image you have kindly gone to the trouble of upoading, Chappel, is identical to my Sonar 6 Console templates. This is what I want to have displayed in 8.5, but all I have is a slider level control and no pan. Am I the only one who has this slider only graphic in 8.5? I need to know how to get back the image that you have posted above. Thanks again

The image below has the Console Strip Resize Buttons outlined in red. The one on the left is the wide strip button but clicking either one will toggle between the two sizes.

Widening or narrowing the strips makes no difference. I guess I will have to learn how to upload a screenshot so you can see a picture of my console track strip with an effects send level slider and a conspicuously absent effects send pan control. There should be a way to customize the console track layout other than the show/hide tabs on the left of screen (and on the left of your above screenshot, Chappel)? This customization one would hope would include the option to show or hide the effect send pan.

I have no idea why you can insert a send and see the send level but not the pan. That's a new one to me. You can hide the Send in the console but not just the pan, as far as I know. I would like to see an image of that. I can duplicate that view in the Track view by enabling Compact Send Display but that doesn't seem to have any effect on the Console view.

Here is the screenshot of the send with level slider and no pan. (Of course the pan that we can see above the volume is the audio pan and not the effect pan)

Mine are the same way as Dilaco1's, I don't see the extra "row" for the pan in my console view that you have in yours, Chappel. Fiddling with it for 15 minutes here I can't figure out why or how to make it show up. I'll see if I can spend some more time on it tonight and try to figure out where the pan went.

Here's something you can check out. I was going through the different view Layouts to see if that had any effect and when I used the Mixing Layout my Console Pan Control disappeared and the strip looked just like the OP's. After that I couldn't get the Pan Control back in the other Layouts until I closed Sonar. Then, luckily, my Console Pan Control was back the next time I started Sonar.

Dilaco1, what you can try is to go through the View>Layouts and try each one. Make sure "When Opening a File, Load its Layout" is enabled. If you find a Layout that gives you the Console Pan Control, save the Project.

Beagle no matter which layout view I load I cannot get the send pan to show up in the console view. Maybe you should ask someone to save a custom Layout that includes the send pan and send it to you. Then you could see if loading that would have any effect.

I tried the View > Layouts but, like Beagle, to no avail. I guess I will have to use old Sonar 6 projects and save them as a template. Pity I can't change some new projects over. I could export the audio and midi tracks over to a new template I suppose, and reinsert plugins and soft synths, but it would take a while. Thanks Chappel for your focus on this issue. And thanks to Beagle for making me feel that I'm not the only one bereft of a send pan.

I've done it for lesser problems. I wonder if the icons are corrupted somehow and a reinstall would fix the problem.

Chappel - send it to beagle@beaglesound.com on my machine I've only installed S8, S8.5 and X1 since this is a new machine and I've not even used 8.5 that much since installing it here - only for old projects I can't/don't want to open in X1.

I usually have the console view open, but most of my clicking is done in the track view.

Beagle Chappel - that didn't work. still no pan send love in the console view! Maybe the problem is, as I suggested above, the icons are somehow corrupt and can't be accessed. Unfortunately, I can't find where those icons are stored. If it were me I'd reinstall the program, and updates, while catching up on shows on my DVR. Maybe Cakewalk Support has some experience with this problem. If you and the OP have this problem, then others have had it and may have worked out a fix with Support.

you know that makes sense. I have X1 on my machine as well and I've modified it using benstat's Sonar Plus Skin Editor. I'm wondering now if I've corrupted the picture files of that stuff. funny but that's the only thing that's missing. I don't have a desire to reinstall it tho. Like I said, I'm a track view man myself AND I work primarily in X1 now. no love lost here. I was just trying to help out the OP.

Right click on the send icon in the bottom left hand screen in the comsole view. Uncheck "Compact Send Display". Widen all strips must be active for the knobs to appear. This works on 8.5 producer.
