How do I prevent auto creation of individual project folder?

I'm transferring old MIDI sequences from my Roland MC50 to my laptop.  Before the latest update, once I transferred a MIDI, I could simply save it as a standalone file in one main folder that contains all the transferred MIDIs.  But now, each MIDI is saved in its own project folder.  This means I then have to go back and take them out so they can reside with the rest of the MIDIs as standalone files.  It's tedious enough to do the transfers, let alone having to do yet another step in the process.

So what setting controls the auto creation of project folders?

Please don't ask why I don't just leave everything in project folders.  There is a reason I do it the way I do it, so trying to convert me will be futile and time wasting. :)

There's been a change in 2017.6 as follows.
" Improved Project Handling
Platinum, Professional, and Artist
When creating a new project using the Start Screen “Create Project” or Ctrl + N, it used to be
necessary to create a folder prior to saving if you wanted to organize audio, MixScenes, and the
project file itself into a common folder location. Starting with the 2017.06 update, SONAR will
now create a folder when you save, providing that “Copy All Audio with Project” is selected in
the Save dialog box.
The new method of project handling also improves the behavior of the “Save As” and “Save As
Copy” options. When using the same location as the current project to save a revision, SONAR
knows this is the original location, and will save the revision without creating an additional
folder. However, if you choose a new location for the project (i.e., create a new folder to hold
the project, or navigate to an existing folder), SONAR will place the project and its associated
audio files into that folder when the “Copy All Audio with Project” option is checked.
Note that the improved project handling is designed to affect only project files. The behavior
for template files, bundle files, and MIDI files remains unchanged. "

It says that MIDI files are unaffected but maybe disable the check box in the save dialog "Copy all audio with Project Files.

Are you saving direct to MIDI or are you creating a Cakewalk project? Sonar handles MIDI data natively and you don't have to create a cakewalk.cwp file. Instead of saving the file, try exporting the MIDI data and give that a try.

Thanks, mudgel.  Yeah, I have to record each song in real time from the MC50 into SONAR, so each song is technically a project.  But it's only a MIDI file so I don't need the Audio folder or anything else associated with it.

Disabling that checkbox works for me. :)

Yeah in the past one had to create the new project folder then dbl click that to open and then sve the new project, now it's just hit save as type the name and it creates the folder and puts all the data in that folder automatically!

Oh it's definitely a much needed and welcome improvement, I have nothing against it at all.   But I also needed to know how disable it for cases like mine. :)

ahh, ok fair enough. Not sure how you disable it. As I always put all projects into specific folders disabling is not something I have looked into.

This. In the days of yore I setup a system that works for me and converting everything now to per-project folders doesn't. I wish there were more dynamic ways to batch manage assets.
