How do I remove or filter static noise?

I am an avid recorder and I have a pretty decent studio to record in. However, I am pretty new at all of this and I need some help. I have all of my songs recorded for a new CD and I just need one thing - to get rid of the damn static noise that I hear during playback. I am using Sonar v2.2 and I have searched high and low to find an answer. Can anyone help me?

i can help you but you won't like it:

find out the track that has static and re-record it. if you are talking about loud hiss then check your signal path (i assume you are using balanced cables, yes?). if you are talking distortion from recording then you are s.o.l. you can minimize it but the track quality will suffer.

it's possible that you can copy over a good section of the same sound (i.e., the same riff you played earlier, replace this chorus with the first one, and so on) and cross-fade the samples.

without knowing exactly what you mean by static i can't help much. true static is quite broadband and is pretty impossible to get rid of.

Is this something that was recorded in the WAV file or something coming through your system?

there are several things that could be causing this.

What type of sound card are you using?

Does this appear on any track you record? Or just particular instruments?

Are you recording guitars in proximity to flourescent lighting?

Posting a sample would help, as would being specific about your PC's CPU, memory, etc.
