How do I sample ?

I want to sample sounds
How do I sample ?

What is the most flexible - wavs?

I want to sample my hardware synths

I want to sample guitars

I wanna sample everything, and either make a new instrument
or a new hybrid synth-type thing

and I wanna twist them in my samplers:
DimPro/Wusik/NNXT/Sampletank/

What say ye, oh great gurus of the electronic world ?
Sampling looks like fun

I Kinda messd up my elbow, so I can't play guitar for a while

Sorry to hear about elbow,,, whew,,,

You definately want something with a good sample editor. Kontakt is probably the king of the mountain on that, but since you mention Wusikstation,,, you might have thiers in your toolbox already,,, and the Wusik editor is really slick. It's a good place to cut your teeth.

Creating good samples is tricky. You need to be consistant in the way you play each note, need to decide the distance of the intervals you're going to sample, and you need to play the notes at consistant volumes, so that you have the tonal character of the samples to match the volocities you intend to map. You also need to set the loop points if you intend to have them sustain.

Personally,,, the type of samples I create are really more for sound effects compendiums, etc. For instruments, I usually buy samples, because there are so many good ones available, and offer pretty good VFM. That's not to discourage you from going ahead and jumping into sampling, though.

Sounds like you might enjoy Extreme Sample Converter. http://www.extranslator.com/

    Yes, 44.1Khz / 24-bit is good.

Sorry to hear about your elbow, but glad to hear that you're making lemonade with the situation. Way back when, I hurt my left index finger, sliced about 1/16" off the tip, and so couldn't play a guitar for many months. Fortunately, a friend showed up to teach me about slide playing with different tunings.

Now about sampling, check these articles out. They both are part 1 of multiple part articles:

I hope you don't need an SoS subscription, but if you do, it's money well spent.

If your PC has a dreaded Creative soundcard, you can download their Vienna Sound Font creation software for free.

Although its GUI is old-fashioned looking, it's really a pretty neat program, especially considering the price!

You will still need to record (and probably loop) your samples. Vienna allows you to assemble them into soundfont banks, which you can then play in SONAR using the sfz plug-ing, or Dimension (although for DimPro you also need to run a free conversion program to get from the .sf2 files Vienna uses to the .sfz files DimPro uses).

For looping samples, Sound Forge is easy to use.

Is this already built into my Wusik4.6.4 ?
It keeps asking me for instrument sounds and stuff ?
