How do I select note length before entry in SONAR notation view?

Dear Anyone. OK, the default note entry view in Sonar is 1-beat notes. But I have to enter everything with a mouse because I'm disabled. If I wanted to - say - use half, quarter notes etc., (or longer - 2 or 4-beat notes) how do I select the note length BEFORE I start putting the notes in with the mouse? Yes, I've looked in the HELP guide but all I can see is something that lets you change the note length by selecting the note AFTER you've entered it. Which is fair enough if you want to make a note longer, but what if you want to select its length in the first place? Surely there's a way of doing it? Yours puzzledly - Yes, another nooob, sad isn't it - ulrichburke

One way, although there are others, is this: once you've entered a note and set it to the length you want, use your smart tool to set the note length to "last selected"

There is a set of buttons in the toolbar of both the Piano Roll View and Staff View, each corresponding to a note length: "Whole Note", "Half Note", etc.  Click on the one that you require before creating the notes.

Ya, I thought it was pretty obvious too, might be your tool bar is not set up with this, go to view and make sure you add the note values to the view.

As mentioned above, you select the note value you want to enter by clicking that note in the toolbar. There are, however, some options you should be aware of.

1: Turn the Fill and Trim Durations off when entering notes with the mouse.

2: As shown in the image below, you must select a Display Resolution that is equal to, or smaller than, the smallest note you want to enter. Example 1 shows the 1/4 note selected as the Display Resolution. Notice that the 1/4 is the smallest note you can select in the toolbar. If you select the 1/16 note as the Display resolution (example 2), the 1/32 note doesn't show in the toolbar. In example 3, the 1/32 note is selected as the Display Resolution allowing all the notes to show in the toolbar.
