How do I set default VST instrument that's not TTS?

Every time I open a .mid file, TTS attaches itself as the default VST, instead of Sound Canvas VA.  I removed everything but SCVA from Preferences > File > VST Settings, but TTS still appears even after closing and re-opening Sonar.

How do I make Sound Canvas VA the default VST?

DAW: Cakewalk by Bandlab (latest version) - x64
VST: Roland Sound Canvas VA
Hardware: Roland MC50mkII Sequencer; Yamaha DGX-660 keyboard; Steinberg UR-44 Interface
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

By saving as a Cakewalk project file. Opening a MIDI file, SONAR is hardwired to use TTS-1 when there is no MIDI output device defined in preferences.

To my rescue again, scook. :)  And now you mention it, I think you told me the same thing when I was using Music Creator.  duh... I have a good memory but it's short, haha.
