How do I set my VI's to stay on top in PRV when I click on the the grid/edit pane ??

It used to stay.  Now if I'm setting say, a MIDI learn note, the whole VI user interface disapears behind the grid/edit pane when I click on a note.  Sooo frustrating.

 thanks

    Dan,

By VI do you mean virtual instrument? And is the grid/edit pane part of the PRV?

If you do is the VI in the Multi-dock? You can drag it off the multi dock and place it anywhere (hold the contro key to move it off the multi dock quickly). When I do that with Dim Pro for example it doesn't behave like you're describing. I may not be understanding your question so well either.

Yes,,,VI=Virtual Instrument.  So say for instance I have the GUI of Superior Drums 2, and I want to use the "mouse pointer" tool in Piano Roll View, (PVR), to click on and play a note to see which cymbal it is "playing". In the past, before X1, it would play it with the GUI "always on top" as they call it in windows, and I could see which cymbal would "light up" when the note was "clicked" on.  But now the Grid pane "covers" the instrument GUI and I can't see it.  I have to carefully move the GUI until the cymbal is in view below the Grid pane so I can see it light up when the grid pane covers the rest of the superior GUI.  So clicking on the "grid pane" vision of the note didn't put the grid pane on top of everything blocking my view so I couldn't see the results of any test.  I hope that presents it more clearly.  thanks

This sounds like simple window mgmt. It's still unclear if you're using the multidock or not, but if the UI does switch on focus you'll want to move it somewheres. If you got a 2nd monitor you're golden, otherwise I think you can still minimize the windows of synth...or I guess you want to do this the other way around.

This might be a perfect candidate for X-Ray!

Yes, it's true that this is one instance where the windows behave a little differently in X1 than in previous versions. The virtual instruments use to be always on top. Not so in X1.

This is how you do it in X1:

The PVR should be placed in the multidock, while the VI should be floating free. Now, there are three keyboard shortcuts you should know about.

    Expand/collapse MultiDock: D
    Maximize/restore MultiDock: Shift+D
And, as wicked was talking about, X-Ray on/off: Hover your mouse over the VI and press Shift-X.

That's how mine's set up and it stays focused as you're wanting.

Top right of VI window, if you right click or hunt around, you may see an option to "Always keep on top"

    If I recall correctly
