How do I turn this back on? (TTS-1 automatically wired when opening GM files)

I'm running Sonar Plat on Windows 10, and turned the UWP support on in the Midi section.  I made the change from MME -> UWP without exiting the app.  I noticed now that it says I have to restart the application to go the other direction UWP -> MME.

I then opened up a few general GM files to see I noticed any difference in the playback, and noticed that it was automatically opening and wiring up the TTS-1 plugin.   I actually liked this behavior.

After a restart, I had to re-select my Midi ports, and then I noticed that it was no longer opening TTS-1 automatically.
Is this controlled in the preferences somewhere?    Is there a preferred GM playback instrument?  I looked around and don't see anything obvious.

Make sure no Outputs are selected in Preferences > MIDI > Devices

That makes sense. Particularly when I think back about the procedure I followed.

Wish there was a setting to adjust this behavior based upon file type.

This is the best tip ever. Steve seemed to be the only one here who knew about this trick. I don't think it's in the help files.
I never could figure out why my Laptop would automatically open a midi file with TTS-1 ready to play but my desktop did not.
My desktop had my interfaces midi ports selected as output. Once I unchecked that, it worked.  Huge time saver for me.

I would like to see a checkbox on the Preference page to force automatic mapping to TTS-1 when opening MIDI files regardless of the output settings.

I have not bothered to scan the help file for it. Noel posted the tip years ago. IIRC, it was added in X3 and is available in MC7 and all current versions of SONAR.

Yes that's a great idea about the check box for opening midi files. The downside of having to de -select midi ports is that option is important to certain set ups when you own outboard midi gear. No big deal to re select but having both work would be nice.
