How do I unlink synth from a cloned instrument track?

So,

I cloned a VSTi Instrument track but now both tracks play the same synth.  How do I assign a new synth to the cloned track?

Turn off Input Echo and set the Input to none on the original's MIDI track.  It will continue to play what was recorded while you play/record with the clone.

Right-click on the track and choose "Replace synth" from the context menu.

I'm not recording. I cloned the whole track and channel.  You're misunderstanding me completely... The instrument track only has one track, not a separate MIDI and AUDIO track.

Replace synth only changes the ONE synth that both tracks are linked to... Tried that...

I have two instrument tracks linked to one synth and there is only MIDI channels in the INPUT field.

  1. Add another synth to the synth rack
  2. select the track you want to target
  3. click the "Tracks" drop-down menu at the top of the track view
  4. click the "Selected track outputs" menu item
  5. choose the desired synth in the "MIDI Outputs" drop-down list
  6. click the "OK" button

If you want to do the same for inputs then choose "Selected track inputs."

Cheers

For your situation, I would recommend Split Instrument Track on that original track. The downside of an instrument track is that not all controls are exposed to the user.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Personally I think it'd be easier to just insert a new track (or use the insert synth dialog) instead of cloning then if you want to use the same MIDI clip(s)/data copy it into the new track.

Otherwise you gotta fiddle with routing and all that other wackiness.

That of course doesn't copy effects and whatnot over so that might be the issue.

Looks like the actual "clone and reroute" aspect has been covered though.

Cheers.

+1 for using Split Audio/Midi tracks

Another +1 for just inserting another synth and copy/drag the midi from your old track across. then you simply delete the clone
