There are a couple videos on using session drummer. I don't know if there are any for the studio instruments (I believe that's what you're talking about). I've only got experience with GM and the session drummers.

    Sonar X1c pe x64
    Sonar VS-100
    phenom 9600 x4
    Win 7 x64 Home Prem
    4 gigabytes ram
    a homebrew champ
    and a telecaster

mrfitz is right, go to youtube and type session drummer 3. you will find heaps of videos on how to set up sd3. I have used studio instaments drummer and from memory was very similar to set up. Also when you have your track, or tracks set up for your drums, make sure you asign the output to the correct setting. I set mine to a seperate bus as shown in one of the vids. Both drum kits are VST plugins, the vids show you  how to load and set them up. To much to explain in here.

you can use your mouse but I suggest a midi keyboard. I use nocturn 49 it,s great for the plug in 's with the v studio. Plus it has automapping which saves time assgining controls. For now you can use your mouse. Make sure you have scanned your VST plug in's and have the correct Input /output field selected. If you don't see the VST folder in SONAR something went wrong with the install on the disk. You can repair the install from the auto run feature when you put the disk back in your drive. It takes some researching the help files for a while to get up and running smoothly, so hang in there.........

I think you have not MIDI so use the mouse and also use the loops that provide the sd4,sd3 browsers and drag to the time line and use the mouse ,read this all the manual very well and use the mouse without MIDI connection.
