I don't use the simple tracks, but here's how I do it.

Route the MIDI track(s) to the synth.
In AD, select each output to go to it's own destination (Separate Out, Pre- or Post-Fader, as you prefer) (https://www.xlnaudio.com/support/topics/separate-outputs-an-overview).

Create a corresponding Audio track in Sonar for each AD Output (Kick, Snare, HiHat, Tom 1, Tom 2....).
Set the input from the first audio track to Addictive Drums/Kick, the 2nd audio track input to Addictive Drums/ Snare, the 3rd audio track input to Addictive Drums/ HiHat, and so forth.

When you're done, you can put them all in a Track Folder for neatness.

I think that's what you're asking for.  Make sense?

Right so im already doing most of this, when i used a simple instrument track, and seperated it out etc.....i was unable to edit it after recording in addictive drums.........so i guess that has something to do with doing it as midi instead of simple instrument track........but yeah....im keen to hear more feedback on this post of other ways of doing it

No i just tried it again, seperating the tracks out via addictive drums, it only records it as audio.there is no option to choose addictive drums in the midi tracks done this way........and yeah because its recorded as audio thats why i cant go back and edit in addictive drums

So again i tried it another way, i went create softsynth/ addictive drum2/ chose midi and stereo softsyths outputs/ i opened addictive drums/ seperated everything post fader/ went into inputs and assigned each track to there drum piece............Yes everythings on its own track/ press record/ records ok.....however on playback.......it nolonger registers in addictive drums, because it recorded as audio not midi..........HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So further to this, as a simple instrument track if i drag a loop from addictive drums onto the track, and play it back, yes it plays back through addictive drums and i can edit it, change drum pieces whatever......yet if i press play and record it records nothing...........Somebody/anybody please help me out here........and the reason im doing this also is because im planning on using addictive drums with my yamaha dtx700 electric drums

So I'm not totally sure what you're trying to do. You talk of dragging a loop from AD2 onto a track and playing it. Which is a midi track triggering AD2.

Then you say "yet if I press play and record it, records nothing." So if you press record (pressing play isn't ever going to record anything) I'm not sure what you're trying to record. Are you trying to record the output of the AD2 loop you're playing to an audio track?

Later on you say you're trying to record your yamaha DTX700 electric drums.. I'm confused, but I'll take a shot that what you're really trying to do is record your electronic drums. And I'll guess that you're trying to record midi from your electronic kit and have that trigger AD2 sounds.

If that's the case, you need to connect the midi out of your DTX to the midi in of your recording interface. Then in Sonar create a midi track. On the midi track, select the input to be the DTX and arm that track for recording.

Hit record and play your drums. You should record midi on your track from your DTX. Now insert your AD2 soft synth, but don't select simple track, I just select "synth track folder" "first synth audio output" "synth property page" and that's pretty much it.

Now on your midi track where you recorded your kit, set the output to go to the Addictive Drums synth. There are some midi maps for yam gear but I don't see the DTX, maybe it's a yam generic or something. You may have to move notes around in your midi track for them to trigger the correct kit piece. In AD2, you can hit the ? and go to "map window" to see the midi notes corresponding to the kit pieces. Make sure you're midi notes are assigned correctly and you should be good.

Hit play and  your midi should play your AD2 kit.

Thanx, sorry to confuse things, my main issue is after i record drums using addictive drums onto individual tracks, it no longer registers in addictive drums kit veiw, so i cant go back and change kit pieces after ive recorded.Why?...................as for my dtx, im cool ive already got it working as atrigger no probs, the issue i do have is, i fail to be able to use the sounds off the dtx700 module with sonar, thats what im having issues with, and also i cant seem to translate the midi note numbers so that the choke function works when im using it as a trigger. Apparently according to the dtx manual, you are ment to send the signal from the dtx into sonar THROUGH sonar (i cant find the through setting), out into the dtx module, which buzzes the module sound and bounces it back onto a seperate track in sonar........Thats also what i am trying to acheive, i have no problem with using it as a trigger

Because you've recorded the Addictive Drums audio output in the same manner as if you'd recorded real drums.  You can't change the drums out once they've been recorded.  If you want to be able to change the kit pieces on the fly you need to be using a MIDI track to trigger the performance.  It IS completely possible to route AD to external tracks and use SONAR's Console View for mixing and fx, while still using a MIDI track.   Exporting to audio should be your final step.

One more thing, Addictive Drums doesn't send MIDI out so you can't record the performance in that way.  "Drag and drop patterns into the track view" is the only way to get MIDI onto an external track.

i fail to be able to use the sounds off the dtx700 module with sonar, thats what im having issues with

Ok, let's start with this. If you have a midi track, maybe one you created by dragging a loop from AD2. Can't you just set the output of the midi track to go to the DTX? You might need some note mapping to trigger the correct sounds on the DTX. Then if you want to record those on an audio track, just patch the out of your DTX into your audio interface and record an audio track in sonar. I actually do that with a Ddrum module some times.

    paul jenkins
Apparently according to the dtx manual, you are ment to send the signal from the dtx into sonar THROUGH sonar (i cant find the through setting), out into the dtx module, which buzzes the module sound and bounces it back onto a seperate track in sonar

I don't understand what you're trying to do here. Ok, so you're hitting your edrums, which creates and audio output and a midi output. Why would you route the midi through sonar back to the DTX to trigger it and then record the audio output of the DTX? Seems like if you want the audio from the DTX recorded, you would just take the audio out of it into an audio track and hit record, forget the midi.  If the DTX has individual outs (I'm not familiar with it) then you could record the individual kit pieces to separate tracks.

Yo gabo"the moderns".......yeah i know what your saying about just recording audio out of the dtx and simply press record..........the dtx 700 doesnt have individual outs, unfortunately, cause thats what i was looking for when i bought it, the edrums that has that option was way too expensive........Yes the whole reason im trying to do it this way,is because it says you can do it in the manual, and there is a guy from yamaha demonstrating how you can do this.......as in midi through and back into sonar......only what and how they say to do it doesnt seem to work!!!.......and tech support at yamaha has little idea either.......Yeah its got me f..d.............ill probably end up either using it as a trigger for addictive drums or just recording straight into my interface as audio!!!!

And they say that every daw has a midi through option????????????i cant see any midi through options.....and yes ive managed  to get a midi signal in sonar with all ins and outs for dtx700 in and out, but i cant hear anything.........the whole purpose is to use the sounds of the dtx module????????????

one thing i did get working was addictive drums with my dtx700 as atrigger.....i went all synths mono output, seperate out in addictive drums, assigned all inputs to addictive drums......and everything recorded, and i had signal when i played back

Haha, you're a hoot Paul! Bummer about not having individual outs for your edrum. Yes those modules can be expensive. I'm not sure how looping the midi through sonar and back to the DTX solves that problem, but maybe there is a way.

Sounds like you got something working for you at least a little bit. For the midi through option you're talking about it's called "input echo" in sonar. It's a button right on the midi channel. You can read about how it works here

    http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X2&language=3&help=Playback.34.html

But I still don't understand how looping it through sonar is going to do anything different. You're basically just sending the same midi signals back to the box it came from. Where are the youtube vids you've mentioned about how to do what you're trying to do? Maybe I could watch those and understand what it is  you're trying to do.

    Shot in the dark....
It sounds like you've got your DTX to trigger AD, and it sounds like you can record the Audio output of AD.
But you want to be able to amend it...

Are you wanting to record the MIDI from the DTX, which you could then send through AD for the kit sounds?  Giving you the ability to edit both the performance (MIDI) and kit sounds in AD...

So thats the video url, guy from yamaha.......and this is the link for dtx 700 manual

The bit about connecting to computer is page 52 - 54.......mainly 53
Yeah, i think ive figured out whats going on though, yeah maybe it just means, you send midi data to sonar, as well as line out a stereo single track audio, and then you could re-record using the same take(midi data) back through the dtx700 to try different kits!!!???........or at least you have the midi data to then feed into addictive drums as slugbaby suggested!!!...........maybe thats what its about........im thinkin at least doing it this way it would solve the problem where i cant figure out how to assign choke feature to addictive drums, because i would have recorded the track hearing the dtx700 sounds where choke works very smoothly, and actually, playing the dtx700 with its on sounds etc is much smoother than using it as atrigger..........So yeah maybe this is a good way to do it, record it 1st using dtx sounds and then feed that midi into addictive drums.

And yes the main reason of feeding midi into addictive drums is simply so i can have each drum piece on a seperate track........which it is a real shame you cant do individual outs from the dtx, because there are some nice kits and sounds on that thing. Especially the world music kits

    Try this:
Record the MIDI from your DTX.
Separate it into a different MIDI track for eack piece of the DTX kit.
Send the Kick MIDI track back to the DTX and record that as an audio track.
Send the Snare MIDI track back to the DTX and record that as an audio track.
    Same for each other drum.

It'll be more work than running the MIDI through AD, but it'll give you separate tracks for each DTX piece if that's really what you want.
