How do these things happen?

I'm 90% finished with a song that has 1 UVI Ravenscroft piano track (still editing), 2 vocal tracks, and fx. Running beautifully. Until this morning. Fired back up. Clicks when I press play, clicks when I press stop. Sound jittery. I am ADAT synced between RME 9632 and Presonus FS. I deleted all fx. Still clicking - and it's back and forth between left and right speakers... I haven't added anything new since yesterday to my system or the project. Have latest RME drivers, running Jamaica (since day it came out). No idea where to look next. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi. It almost sounds like  you have fade on start / stop at zero (Preferences, Audio, Playback and Recording). Could it be the case?
    Best of luck.

Thanks much for the pointer. It was set at 20ms, where it's been since before 8.5... It took 50ms to get it to go away. I've used this piano over a year and this is the 1st time I've seen this. Anomalies are a way of life for us recordists.

Strange... Glad you got it working, though

I have these settings, should I change them? I have noticed on projects with 50+ the project takes a while to get going when I press play and I get frequent drop outs even if I have no VSTs inserted. Track counts below the 50 mark and I'm fine and can run a lot of plugins no problems. Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit.

We had sometimes similar problems when digitizing tapes.
That happens very rarely by normalizing an audio clip - there comes an error in the data of an audioclip. This error then superimposed the complete entire project.
    Maybe you have this  problem.
Look at your audioclips. Delete one by one and see what happens.

We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.
    4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ...

    4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... Studer A80, RP99, EMT948 ...

I just gave a slightly (un) educated guess as to where the problem(s) would be. I have mine set at 10 ms in / out. Have not changed mine for a long time. It (I believe) would depend on the specs (which is good to post when having issues) of your system, how many tracks, plugins, etc. It could also be an issue with driver settings / latency.
Do you use pre - allocate file setting (Preferences, Audio, Playback and Recording?
    Best of luck.
