How do you guys make money?

I'm wondering about this. How do you make money from these CakeWalk softwares? And how much?

I'm sorry for my curiosity...

I don't.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

It's mainly a hobby.  I've made a few dollars recording people in my house, but no where near any kind of profit from all I've spent.

Well, first I take just the right type of cotton paper, get some dies cut then...  Oh wait, that's not what you meant is it?

Actually, I've used SONAR most over the last few years for voice-overs.  For a start-up company I was in, we had demo videos that I would add background music to and then perform a voice-over of what's being shown.  Then these were used on our website and at trade shows.  So, theoretically, that should have made us some money.  Of course, between the Government backing out on their promises to our customers and the head of sales being an extremely unethical person, not much came out of it.  But that's another story!

All music work that I have done has been as a hobby with no expectation of making any income (except for a song I wrote a LONG time ago that was stolen by some popular Christian artist of all things and turned into a successful tune - HE definitely made some money from it  ).

Re: How do you guys make money? 2014/04/25 13:06:35 (permalink)
To date I've grossed about $6 from music, but I've spent thousands, upon thousands on music!!

LOL!

I wouldn't trade it for the world.  I love being a musician.  I love the experience I've had.

I'm no longer, "in the music business," in any sort of old style music business you can possibly think of.  Being a musician has taught me marketing, and being a music producer has kept me in tune with technology (extremely important in this day and age.)

I do not look to the audio/visual arts as a way of supporting myself directly, but I certainly look at them as a way to add to my overall life experience, and support me in my other endeavors.

Hope this helps,

Cheers

Jonathan

I do it for fun, but then it is a lot of work.
If ever selling any song which you can do, then maybe I will have to buy it also.
If I tell my neices and nephews and my ex-wife (well forget that) then maybe a couple of cents more may be made.
But I doubt it.

OK... I'm guessing our "enthusiasm" or perhaps the sarcasm in our posts, has scared this poor guy off.

Seriously .... though, if you have a band or are playing a live gig on a regular basis, use the software to record your very own "CD project"  .... then sell it at your gigs to your fans.   That is probably the best way to make money from this software.  Of course, if you develop your skills and throw some more money into the gaping hole called "trying to make money in music" you could also set up a studio, hang your shingle,  and spend many years taking money from people who write crappy songs and can't sing their way out of a wet paper bag, pursuing their misguided dreams while working cooking fast food....... but hey it pays your bills right?

sorry.....was that sarcastic again?

Curiosity is ok. For some strange reason I think you're asking a serious question.
The answer is simple: If you professionally run a succesfull studio with high profile performing customers, you make more money than running a less successfull studio with unknown customers. If you have a solid customer base for miscellaneous audio work you'll make enough money to live a decent life.
If you're a hobbyist, you don't make money at all, you spend it.
It's not about Cakewalk software, it's about what you can do with the software you use.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
