How do you route midi to a vst?
I saw the post about Kerovee and so I downloaded it. I saw that you can route midi to it but how do you do it? Thanks

Insert a MIDI track and set the Kerovee as the output. You have to do a VST scan and tell it where the dll file for Kerovee is before that will work.

I am feeling really stupid so pretend you are talking to a 2 year old :-) I inserted a midi track but kerovee is not an option for outputs. I did do a VST scan (preferences->VST Settings->Scan VST Folders). I also told it to re-scan existing plugins. I can add kerovee as an effect on an audio track but I do not have the option for setting the output of a midi track to kerovee. Thanks

I'm trying to figure out why. If its for automation look to ACT for that. Its an audio VST for tuning and transposing audio. But if you must have it show MIDI inputs you must load it as a synth.

Have you inserted the VST (kerovee) into the project? It won't be available as an output from a midi track until it's been explicitly added/inserted to the project.

My understanding is that it can use MIDI to control the output. It is quite possible I have completely misunderstood. This is what it says on the website: How to Install&Use - Just place KeroVee.dll to your plugins directry. - Insert KeroVee to audio track. - Route the MIDI signal to KeroVee if you want to use the 'TuneTo MIDI' function. It is the last bullet I am trying to figure out how to do. Like I said, maybe I am misunderstanding something. Thanks

My memory (often fallible) tells me you can't route a midi track to an audio effect, only to a VST instrument... Maybe someone else can confirm/deny

Something in this triggered a neuron in what's left of my right brain, and I went to Google for an example. I am pasting in some text that talks about essentially configuring your AUDIO effect plug-in as a SYNTH, but still using it as an effect. (Sounds like it's against the laws of nature, but anyways, here is what I found - maybe this will help you with what you are trying to do): " Some audio effects plug-ins respond to MIDI in one way or another, such as BIAS PitchCraft EZ responding to MIDI notes for setting pitch. Installing as a standard audio plug-in doesn’t expose the MIDI inputs, but there is a workaround: tell Sonar it’s a virtual instrument. 1. Go to Tools / Cakewalk Plug-in Manager. 2. Under Plug-in Categories, select ‘VST Audio Effects’. 3. Click on the plug-in in the Registered Plug-ins column. 4. Click on ‘Plug-in Properties’. 5. In the Properties window, tick ‘Configure as synth’. 6. Click ‘OK’. 7. The list of plug-ins should refresh and you’ll be able to find the plug-in under the VST Instruments plug-in category. However, as it’s a processor, don’t use the Insert / Soft Synths method to add it to a track. Instead, right-click in the Effects bin and select the processor from the Soft Synths choices. You can then create a MIDI track and select the signal processor as the track’s MIDI output. A similar trick works for effects that respond to tempo. If the effect doesn’t respond to tempo of its own accord, follow the same steps as before but, in step five, tick ‘Configure As Tempo-Based Effect’. " On a different site - they advise also re-scanning your plugins after you do the above. I hope the above helps you, Bob Bone

Not having heard of Kerovee I googled it and the only thing I could find was a vst effect similar to autotune. If that's what your using then I'm thinking your confusing it with a vst instrument. Most of the replies here seem to be assuming it's an instrument or synth of some sort ? With effect you should normally be able to use an envelope to control it's parameters. On the track where you have kerovee loaded, click on "Clips" click on "Automation" and at the bottom of the next list you will see Kerovee listed. move your mouse over that and you'll get a full list of parameters for which you can assign envelopes. First off, you guys are awesome! Karl, I have an audio effect that autotunes audio but it says it can be controlled through midi. So it need to be on an audio track to do its thing. But somehow I need to route midi to it. Bob, I did a search before posting but I did not see the article you posted. I did all the steps but the last one "right-click in the Effects bin and select the processor from the Soft Synths choices" didn't work for me. I couldn't see kerovee as a choice. Also, if this did work, then kerovee would not be an audio effect, which it needs to be for this to work. I think? twaddle, I think this might be it but I still could not get it to work. I can add kerovee as an audio effect, I can select kerovee under automation and automate midi but still midi was not controlling the pitch. I tried setting my keyboard to each midi channel but still no go. Everyone, I really appreciate all your help! I thought this was going to be easy and I just wanted to try this out to see if it works. If it doesn't, that is OK, so please don't spend more time trying to help me. I really just thought this was a common and simple thing to do. It is not worth much of all your time. But really, I do appreciate how much you have helped me so far!

WOW! Thanks! I got further. I read all the posts in that thread and read the blog. I can automate any of the controls from my keyboard. However, I can't make the pitch of the autotuner to follow which key I play. Perhaps, that is can't be done. It just seemed like that is what one would want. That is, have the autotune pitch follow the midi note. I can turn things on and off by playing a note. I can control the transpose knob using a controller but I can't control the transpose knob or pitch by playing different notes. That thread got me a whole lot closer though. Thanks!!!

make sure the green midi light is on set to mono at first and deselect the scale button. on the midi track that's sending info to kerovee is where you put the notes. if you watch the audio scroll you'll see lines come in when the notes are triggered - that's the note the pitch is being corrected to. :D

OK, now I warned you that you had to talk slow to me lol Just to make sure, after all I have tried, this is what I have... - Create a new project - Add an audio track - Add Kerovee to the track in the fx bin - Add a midi track (when I play notes, the input meter goes up and down) - In Kerovee, make sure midi is on and tune to scale is off This is where I am confused... Like I said above, I can control any Kerovee knob with my keyboard (midi keyboard) but the individual notes themselves do not control the pitch of Kerovee. In the other thread (about using an expression pedal), the key was to turn automation lanes on, right click the vertical bar graph (then chose remote control) to chose what you want to use to control the automation. Also, clicking on clips->automation, allows you to chose what you want to automate. This is where I am confused. I can automate knobs but what do I chose to automate the pitch? Is it transpose? Thanks for hanging in there. I know this has to be frustrating lol

what's the old saying?? a picture's worth a thousand words... wonder what a video is worth. i've found that just a quick video can mean a whole lot. i got the idea from native-instruments tech support when i was having a problem with massive - the support guy asked if i could send a video showing the problem and that was a "duh" moment for me... it's good fun too and i've been learning a lot doing them!

Seriously, you guys are awesome!!! Thank you for taking the time to help me out. I watched the video. That was perfect!!! I also liked the aquarium in the background. It was very soothing! lol You guys were saying all the right things above, the part I was missing was that once you make kerovee and instrument, you add it as an instrument on an audio track. I should have made that step myself but for some reason had a mental block and felt I that could not be done. Anyway, thank you again for taking the time for creating the video. It was clear and to the point and even I now understand what I need to do. Thanks
