How do you show numbers 1-128 with patch names without having to edit each one?

You can import instrument definitions (INS. files) for most popular synths from the list that is included in Sonar. I did this a few months ago for a Triton Classic in Sonar X2. Trouble is, I don't remember how I did it, but it was fairly simple once I learned how. I'm not at my DAW so I can't explore the process to offer the steps, but if you do a search for "importing instrument definitions" I think you'll probably find some forum threads that explain it, as I did. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I wanted to at least let you know that there is a way to do what you want without having to create your own list of banks and patch names. I think the process is a bit different in X1 and X2 than in previous versions.  
 
From reading another thread on this subject I was reminded that I found the procedure on YouTube, not on a forum thread. There is a video on YouTube that explains the process.

I want to see the patch numbers along with the names like I can in Digital Performer. I don't want to have to edit hundreds of individual names to do this. I did a couple to see if I could and it worked but I'm looking for a faster method.

 I already have the banks and patches loaded into X2. The problem is that the names of each patch show, but there are no numbers (ex acoustic piano, Bass instead of 1.acoustic piano, 33 Bass etc.)

re: If you have a spreadsheet program like Excel, you could set up one column with the numbers using autofill and another column with the patch names and then copy and paste it into the text file.

Well, at first I thought: How hard is it to type in the numbers? I'd only have to do it once. 

But then I thought, how would I shortcut that since I wouldn't want to type 500 patch numbers either... and that's how I came up with the Excel idea. Hope that works for you. In the old days I might have created a BASIC or QBASIC program to do it, but who has those anymore?

You don't even have to type it. Just put "1" in the first cell and Ctrl drag the box and it will increment up to 128 (or however far you need/drag it) for you.  And if you want to have it display "# - Name of patch"  You could open the instrument definition file in note pad, paste the names in the column after the numbers and concatenate the two columns.  Then you just need to copy the concatenated column and paste special -> values back into that column, then delete the two original columns and save it as a text file (or copy back to Note pad and save).
