Just toyed w/ it on some vocals.  Sounded very crisp and warm to my ears.  Will test it on some instruments and drums later.  Interface will take some getting used to but that's to be expected.

The impression I got is that, like many tools, Pro Channel is very capable of achieving very professional, high end results if you know what you are doing.  And that is pretty much all I was looking for.  So I'm pleased with it.  Definitely have a feeling this will help me cut down my 3rd party plugin usage.

That's very encouraging :) and if being able to cut back on third-party plugins, the P/Chn would be worth the upgrade alone.

Question;
What's the CPU hit like when using multiple (8 to 16) instances of Pro Channel?

-

Haven't got that intense w/ it yet.  But I am about to work on a mix tonight and will test the limits.  Somebody else may be able to chime in on that one.  If not, I'll report what I find after today.

You are probably already aware of this, but the Cake website now has several audio examples of the Pro Channel in action:

http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/X1-Producer/Details.aspx/ProChannel

Cool! Thanks for posting that link, I just spotted it and had a listen.

The Pro Channel sounds particularly 'awesome' on drums and vocals.  On instruments I would probably use a shorter release and a little bit of HPF on dense/larger mixes, as solo instruments the acoustic guitar for example sounded great as is.  I guess most of the ProChannel parameters can be controlled by automation.

Yeah! Can someone do a test ~ Automation's / Envelopes on Pro Channel parameters.

I made a new test again! 16th of STEREO-Tracks AUDIO + Gloss EQ + Compressors on every channels and add on top of that-----> BUS Compressor on the "AUDIO output BUS" + BUS Comp Compressor on the "SUB-MASTER"-Bus aswell.

Hit play in SONAR X1 Streaming= 12 %....drop down to 5-7 % CPU. Fast peaks sometimes at 15-18%...
The Gloss EQ use very LOW CPU. 1-2 % CPU perhaps...

It works like this. Once you add a singel "Compressor" on track or VST Instruments it takes like 5% CPU. If you continue to add a new Compressor on a other channels it doens't hog the CPU. It stay at 5% CPU even how many Compressor you open after that. Smart DSP programming, = Low CPU. Cakewalk should improve and make this smart programing even smarter with help of NVIDIA DSP CUDA processing. Please add NVIDIA DSP CUDA support on whole Pro Channel and SONAR X1 processing.

Trust me, I have worked and I use alot of High end stuff and plugins. I can just say, right name for right product. "Pro Channel", It doesn't get better then this. Pro Channel sounds amazing, and you get the same amzing result like with highend SSL, API hardware mixer consoles. If you can't mix with this, you are in wrong profession.

SONAR X1 producer with Pro Channel are the best buy and upgrade of your studio in 2010!

Best Regards
Freddie

That's brilliant :)

Cakewalk did say that Pro Channel is not a plugin, and it's very CPU friendly.... this opens up further potential in the future such as; Mastering quality Reverb/Delay, Transparent Brickwall Limiter and Analyzer, all built-in like the Pro Channel, possibly added to the Pro Channel.

Hi Freddie,

+1 here. I started a thread about CUDA the other day and I hope the bakers will look into GUI hardware accelerated audio plugins.
