How has Spotify not yet learned to differentiate between two artists with the same name?
You'd think they were identified by some kind of code or key on the back end. But noooo, oftentimes I will click on an artist's name to see their other releases and find that some other completely different artist with the same name is mixed in there. Like just now I clicked through to the page for Reggae singer John McClean to find it all mixed up with a jazz guitarist of the same name (who as it happens is quite good  ) Come on Spotify, that's as lame as it gets!

iTunes has the same problem. My album shows up among another Matt Swift's projects.
It can't be tough to separate.

It can't be tough to separate.
Ah, iTunes... I also love the way it splits albums for no reason. And the way it merged both eponymous Killing Joke albums.

same here - we just released a new album under "Scandalous Grace" band name and there was another band who released an album in 2012 with the same name, iTunes and Spotify and a lot of others think we're the same band. :(

Hi,
I do wish that some of these services would, at the very least, clean up their database searches and details, because they are using generic crap that does not know how to search and find the proper and correct detail you are looking for ... it exchanges your detail, for their own detail, instead, and you get their favored commercial answers, instead of the ones that you really should have ... tells you that the code is not even smart, otherwise you would put the two together ... !!!!
Similar ... in WoW, along the listings for "Pets" for Pet Battles, there are about 700+ for me, and you can not search for "rat", or "rabbit" ... the database gives you anything, but, including results that do not even have the letters "rat" in them! There you go ... high school code, and cheap database work!
Gonna have the same similar issues on Spotify and YT and everywhere else, where the design and database are as cheap as possible, and there is no artistry in their searches ... just generic crap!
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

I put my name in there searching for my cd and i come up about 4th after some names that aren't even close to mine.

i transferred 2 rehearsal files(set edited 19.12.16 and 20.12.16 respectively). on to the ipod to listen and they came up labelled as "DJ Doboy-Retro Mix" and "Jeff Foxworthy-Best Of".
guess that`s the difference between a chip and a person-a person can smell a rat but ITunes cant......

Back in college, there was a guy with the same name and same birth date as I, living on the same street - I was at 390 and he at 350. We found out when there was an election and we had problems registering to vote. We became friend-ish for the rest of the time we were in college. He then moved back to his hometown. Fast forward 25 years later. A few months ago, after having had some issues with my Canadian bank account, I got in touch with them. After I had answered all the security questions, I was told that they did not have my correct address - which alarmed me because I've made my address change twice since we moved in the US. When they gave me the address they had on file, I realized that it was located in that other guy's hometown. I'm guessing that he's been receiving my credit card bills for the last few months before I called. Incompetence, you know... Maybe I should sue them for breach of confidentiality or something.

Again, these are not "pure", or "absolute" searches and they are littered with their own information and friends so they can benefit from the "hit" and justify the adds and commercials ... this is how Google, Yahoo, and others do it for the most part. They have to make their own a priority, otherwise they can not sell anything of value. But a proper search on a database is not likely to happen as the ascii code is not organized in a proper order, that would help create a more detailed and complete result on a search. Don't feel bad ... the old days of Alta Vista, used to give you 100 pages (or more) of the biggest amount of crap you ever saw anywhere in your life ... which helped make Google and Yahoo searches more valuable since then. But it tells you that most programmers were not interested in cleaning up their searches and making sure they worked correctly. I do not believe, there is a single one out there that does things correctly when it comes to searches. However, according to my friend (code specialist), he says, that there just isn't enough time and space in the day, to fix a search every minute of the day, until the code is revised and cleaned up, which is not going to happen now, after 25/30 years of internet growth. It's probably too late. I would think that a place that is trying to sell the artists that it is representing with the songs and albums, would be smart enough to improve their searches, but again, I doubt anyone in their house even has the ability to fix searches, let alone figure out what to do.

When my father died I was his executor.
He had an account at a particular bank, as did I. We don't have the same first names, so no chance of confusion on that basis.
I did the paperwork etc. to obtain probate and took the required paperwork into the bank. A week later I got a statement addressed to Mr TLW, Executor of Mr TLW's Father (deceased) confirming I could distribute the account contents in accordance with his will etc.
A month later I received another letter addressd to "Mr TLW, Executor of Mr TLW (deceased)" telling me I now had clearance to access my own account as (my own) executor.
Turned out they'd marked my father as deceased and myself as his excutor - and also tagged myself as deceased with myself as my own executor.
Doh.
