How many DAWs do you use?

I only have one Sonar and have no plans to leave it though I might consider adding another at some point. I did use Acid at one time but have not updated it since Acid Music 2.0

I notice that a lot of people use Studio One Pro along with Sonar. I took a look at it and Studi One Pro full version is on sale for 199.00 at Sweetwater but the crossgrade price is 299.00 I'm not sure wht to make of that.

Anyway I just nticed the cheap price and thought I'd share it. I am not going to buy it I, I need to stick with one DAW but if you need two, this might be a good deal.
It seems like a lot of software and even hardware is going on sale for some really deep sales lately.

Yup - just posted about that one in the software forum. Got Artist for $20 last fall and just bought the upgrade to Pro for $99. (Directly from Presonus actually, and I think they'll keep it at that price until the end of October.)

That is very clever marketing from the folks at Presonus.

I have it installed, I don't really use it. I sometimes mess with it late at night. But I've reached a point where I can't imagine working w/ anything but Logic. It's just the tool I work better with.

Depending on where Cakewalk will be w/ Sonar X when I finally get home, I may end up just installing Studio One on the studio PC as a secondary workstation. It has the advantage of being cross platform.

I'm on Sonar 8.5 as my main DAW.  I've been using Studio One Artist and just uninstalled it through lack of use, I'm not even tempted by the £65 upgrade to the pro version, even though this reduction makes it a more realistic price for what it is, as I already use the Reason/Record duo (soon to become Reason 6) which covers the functionality that is offered by Studio One that I'd end up using, namely the quick arrangement and sound designing capabilities.

I'd be pretty fed up if I had paid out what Presonus were charging at the outset although I suspect a new version number of Studio One is due soon to warrant this most recent price drop. (either that or it ain't going any further in development)  I found Studio One is very good at what it does but it doesn't do nearly enough.

It's not until you see what else is on offer out there that you realise that Sonar is still very much a big boy in DAW land, despite the justifiable complaints at the quality of the initial X1 release.

I have Studio One Artist, bought it during the $20 sale. I mess around with it once in a while. Some nice features... but I don't have much time for a learning curve right now. So, I stick with Sonar.

    I only use Sonar.

I bought Studio One during that $20.11 deal but ended up never even installing it because I couldn't get everything downloaded. I tried it at the library, and a local business where I know the Director Of Service. He has high speed with full access and the download would stop every time in the same place. After a week he gave up. Losing the 20 bucks didn't make me mad, but it was that extra 11 cents that upset me. J/K.

I tried Reaper but I found it too different than Sonar and I don't have the patients to learn anything new. Well, more like the ability. I'm pretty set in my ways with Sonar, which is why I struggle with X1 so much.

I use Sonar, Studio One Pro and Fruity Loops. Lately I have been using Reason as well but only for the synth rack. I have got that setup on a separate Mac Laptop and I am sequencing the Reason rack externally from my main DAW.

Studio One Pro is excellent and it has turned into my main DAW as this is what happens when you start using another program especially that one as it is so reliable and bullet proof.

Bub the download for Studio One Pro itself is not that big but it is all the content that gets pretty big. I bought Artist as well for $20 and then upgraded to Pro for another $200. If you do this all the DVD's will turn up in the mail and you don't have to fiddle around downloading mega large files, they are all on the DVD's

Fruity is a very different program and I have found myself using it more and more. I have stopped exporting files from Fruity into other DAW's too and it is better to just mix and do everything in Fruity itself.

I use Sony Vegas Pro 8 w/DVD Architect Pro 5.0. too.

Makes for a good combination of video and music. There are also many audio features with Vegas that I like. Just a good working combination with X1 IMO.
Missing Sonys Noise Reduction 2. and would like to get that.

I'm learning Reaper 4.0 x64 at the moment. I've got the impression that it may have more power for a guy who records live instruments more than works with midi. I still have X1 and 8.5.3 installed and will most likely keep them installed for legacy projects and in hopes that someday Roland will come around to their senses. I'm also interested in Pro Tools native if the expendable income becomes available. Don't know if you want to include 2 track programs but I have Sound Forge 9.0 and CD Architect 5.2 installed. I use those for mastering and CD burning.

I think there's an extra cost for the dvd's.

FWIW, I did download a lot of the extra content (except the loops, I don't use them anyway) - unless you're really curious to hear that stuff, and assuming that you already own VTIi's and sample libraries, you can probably spare yourself the time/effort/money. IMHO, that's not Studio One's strongest point - though I do like some of the Ubershall drum samples.

    The rest seems pretty generic.

I tried Reaper but I found it too different than Sonar .
    +1

I tried the Reaper demo and gave up after spending what seemed like an eternity just trying to insert a MIDI track and failing. I am sure its easy if you read the manual but I just wanted to be able to knock up a few MIDI tracks using a home keyboard I had access to when I was a long way from my DAW.

I gave up and Installed the X1 demo. It seemed to work OK but I can't say I was that impressed with the new interface. I could get used to it but there is nothing compelling me to upgrade.

So just one fro me  Sonar 8.5.3 PE.

I do most work with Sonar PE 7. I installed Reaper and got it to do a few things but could not see it being better than Sonar. Midi seemed weak. I got a free version of Cubase LE with my Tascam interface and have used it to record some live multi tracks. Couldn't see any way to use soft synths so it's not much use for my normal way of working. I would like to try the full version which they have an offer with my now activated account, but will wait for the right time to do this. Pro tools new open version is also a temptation. My only complaint with Sonar is it's pour wave editing features.

I only USE X1, 8.5 and Music Creator 5 & 6 (all cake).  I have installed and played with Cubase 4 AI because it came with my keyboard, but I don't really have time to learn it and am not that interested in it.  In the past I've used Magix and Abelton Live - I didn't care for either of those.

I think I'm liking it because it IS so cryptic. Users that won't dig for themselves don't last very long. (Me included at first.) But the internal power of the program is blowing me away right now. Did you know that you can record multiple mic sources into one Reaper track on separate channels? And then you can output those channels independently to separate tracks for individual processing or rendering. What this means is that you can record a guitar track with two close mics and a room mic and have them all on one track so that you can edit them all at one time. Then you can either split them out to separate tracks or render them to separate tracks. I don't want to become a Reaper-farian here but it's hard to not be pretty stoked by the program once you start catching on to their way of doing things.

    I use Sonar mostly
I have Reaper.  It irritates me that I cannot organize my plugins better.

I have Studio 1 Pro.  It irritates me that I cannot freeze tracks (last I checked)

I get irritated with Sonar, particularly when it makes me hit a wrong note or play out of time.  But I can organize my plugins and I can freeze tracks.

    But I prefer Opcode.

Sonar v5....Samplitude Pro 9.  I decided to invest in quality VSTi's and instruments as long as the recording / editing features are stable. For me, that's what is significant in production.

I get irritated with Sonar, particularly when it makes me hit a wrong note or play out of time.
I hate that feature.  There should be a way to disable it in audio.ini.
