this here is worth a research paper on its own, ive heard people say that the way the room is lit can have an effect on how they hear, i can beleive that one sense can effect the other, or maybe its more a psychological comfort thing

I find that a ProTools poster on the wall behind me and slightly above my head level, pinned not stapled, helps cut the LF's too.

Love my lava lamp.
I actually owned it before I got into recording.
Maybe it was the vibe from the lamp that pushed me towards setting up a home studio?

Found most of this at Wikipedia...Hilarious stuff. Lava Lamp also known as Astro Lamp. Was invented in 1963 by Edward Craven-Walker. He called it the "Display Device". Reminds of CRT, LCD, TV, HD... The patent link is: http://www.google.com/patents?vid=3387396 Check out Claim #2 (Definitely user friendly language) "The decorative system of claim 1 wherein the decorative aqueous mixture in one said windowpane structure is an essentially different color than the decorative aqueous mixture in another of said windowpane structures." For those of you that like to DIY (do the words DIY acoustic treatment with fiberglass come to mind...yes, yes they do...:)) I found a site for DIY Lava Lamps: http://www.oozinggoo.com/howto.html , however, it looks like this is similar to frying a Turky. If you don't know what your doing then don't do it, otherwise you might just qualify for the coveted Darwin Award. Peace!

I rent a Grammy statue from my friend for only $500-00 per month (he has two) - it imbues me with the spirit of several rock legends and adds a lot of analogue to my sound. My clients say they can hear the difference in double-blind testing.

Used to have a lava lamp - moved house, no lava lamp in new studio = loss of direction. You have solved the problem for me. Many thanks.

When I was lucky enough to have a full basement studio, I used to have black lights and red bulbs at opposite corners of the room, with a grid of black acoustic foam squares on the ceiling. The effect was a soft slow gradient transformation from red to deep purple and it was absolutely beautiful, especially at the point of mixing. Crazy as it sounds, I do think I listened and thought differently in that soft quiet room than I do in my new above ground daylight studio.
