    Never.

I stopped using chainsaws when one kicked back and hit my visor, sawing it almost in half. Scared me, I don't mind admitting.

I use a reciprocating saw instead.

Before using it.  With a file.

A sharp blade is a real joy to work with..(if you can find joy in running a chainsaw)

Sharp blades cut better and don't kickback and bind as easily.

Same thing actually with all my bladed tools and weapons.  Always keep them honed.

I'd use 2 at a time if they made a left handed model.

I take the better chains in to be sharpened and I just kill the disposable chains. If I can't kill them on wood I save them for trenching and that kills em for sure.

I use a chainsaw to save time and I always equate the task to the cost of getting more help on the payroll... I'm willing to kill the chain saw if it saves me money, time, or time is money.

I also fix my chainsaws after I kill them so it works out ok.

    best regards,
    mike

Would you then wear 2 pairs of white socks too?

    LOL great minds think alike.

I just gave mine away....it had been hanging on a wall for years and years...lol..

My recipropricreatingpro say is much quiter and they have very nice blades for them. ++

Apart from being a complete wuss about chainsaws , I can't get insurance cover unless I have a certificate of competence, which costs more money to get than I care to spend. I also find certain advantages with the reciprocator, i.e. it doesn't mind lying sideways in the dirt to cut through buried roots.

Most everyone and their dog has a chainsaw around here. Lot of backroads and trees fall...
I cleared my property years ago and should have sold the saw then.
I just trimmed some limbs (2-4") with the recip. and a trimming blade about 8" and it was
so much easier all the way around.
I'm unaware if there are issues with insurance coverage for using one here...I'll ask around.
The only requirement that I can think of is yelling at folks to stand back lol. well...more of a nice
    gesture.

The insurance cover issue is for my business, I'm a gardener. I don't really get any call for chainsaw work anyway, so it's no biggie. There are plenty of tree-jockeys around.

I know James...I apologize for my stupid sense of humor. I don't know any good insurance jokes.
I do know some tree-jokeys though.
They get around in them around here like cat squirrels.
