How ro keep a VST sound when converting a Midi file to a Wav file. Help!

I'm relatively new to Sonar Professional but have found the email support not be be forthcoming for whatever reason. After much time and effort, and a couple of system crashes, I was able to configure my controller with my Windows 10 64 bit laptop, but discovered, much to my frustration, that the Midi file string patch I saved from one of the Sonar plugins became a piano patch instead once I converted it to a Wav file using a third party converter (NCH software). This has happened to me more than once. Is there any way to fix this? I would like to be able to use this file as an instrumental track for my podcast I've recorded in Adobe Audition using the patch I want. So far it's not happening!. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to what to do about this. Thanks.
