How to Back Up Sonar Config ?
Hi Guys, Would someone be kind enough to explain or point me to someplace I could learn what files to back up (and where they reside) in order to preserve & restore the current Sonar DAW configuration? Thanks, Sonic ----------------------------- WinXP 32 S5 PE RME Fireface

Hey Sonic. I switch configurations frequently. The files I backup and restore to do so are: AUD.ini ctlrsurface.dat INSTRMAP.INI Master.ins TTSEQ.INI All are located at C:\Usres\"user name"\Appdata\Roaming\Cakewalk\Sonar Platinum If you wish to back up folder locations they are located in the registry under the following: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Platinum\UserPaths] Just export these values from the registry. EDIT: just noticed in your sig you are running XP. The above folder locations are win 10.

Thanks Bruce, that's great help. No worry, I can figure out the XP paths easy enough, at least I know the files involved now, and that they tend to reside in the same location. Do I need to worry about ctlrsurface.dat ? I don't have any external devices/controllers, everything is done within the DAW. Sonic

I don't think so but ctlrsurface.dat would be right where Bruce mentioned (In C:\Usres\"user name"\Appdata\Roaming\Cakewalk)

As Chuck said no need to worry about ctrlsurface.dat if you dont use external controllers. The same is true of INSTRMAP.INI if you don't use instrument maps. Given that they are so small it's not much trouble to do though. When you open the location folder, if you view by date modified with the most recent first they will all be together at the top.

Uh...ok, feeling pretty stupid right about now.....what exactly is an instrument map? Is that where something like a drum map would be stored within a project?

Instrument definitions are used to map the patch names and controllers of external midi devices to Sonar. Once defined, the actual patch name appears in all editors and the track inspector rather than just a number. You will find the settings under preferences>midi>instruments. This information is stored in INSTRMAP.INI.

G1Records Hi, Does this back up presets and customer toolbar control settings (C) etc? about to back up for a new machine.
Unless you've configured it to be otherwise, presets are stored in: %AppData%\Roaming\Cakewalk\Shared Presets So you'll need to backup the whole folder. I don't know where toolbar control settings are stored though.
