Seriously, folks, The point of this video is very well taken.
I look for evidence of celiac disease/non-tropical sprue (true gluten sensitivity) on a daily basis, in a lot of specimens. Celiac disease does happen -and it is very significant to those afflicted- but actual celiac disease is an unusual finding.
In my own personal life, I intentionally consume fairly large amounts of gluten rich food every morning, as the cereals I choose are loaded with fiber, and I am more concerned about avoiding hypercholesterolemia than gaining some nebulous, non-verifiable benefits from arbitrary cessation of gluten consumption.
Also, think about how tightly linked the cultivation of wheat and the rise of civilization were.
This gluten-free thing has all the earmarks of a fad, and it should go away in due time, as it has no basis in reality. Cheers, Bert

The gluten-free label is usually a big turn-off for me. I'm glad the rare people who actually need it have access to it, but as for the rest of them... In fact, I sometimes feel like some kind of alien when we stop by Whole Foods. I am into fitness and healthy food, but a lot of people out there seem to have turned those things into some kind of religion.

Most people want to belong to a movement. The reasoning escapes me. Worse, it seems a lot of folks choose movements that rhyme with 'vowel' to cling to. I don't blame the food I eat for my condition(s). The blame rests squarely on my hands and eating utensils!!

As a celiac myself, and someone who will go into a condition similar to Anaphylactic shock if I ingest above a certain amount of gluten, I find this completely insulting, and absolutely abhorrent to be making fun of a condition which is very real, and in extreme cases can even be fatal. Those of us who are unlucky enough to have this condition, have it through no fault of our own, and yet we are ridiculed like this because of that ? Perhaps I should start on about all the people who use pictures of themselves pretending that they are some kind of rock star, when in fact all they are are dime a dozen wannabe's ?

WTH? He's making fun of people who pretend to be gluten intolerant. It is made abundantly clear and even stated at the very beginning of the video. No one ridiculed you or the condition you suffer from. Actually I sincerely doubt that you or anyone who is genuinely affected would behave anything like the guy in that video. And I sincerely doubt that anyone who watches this video will start making fun of the unfortunate people who suffer. If you assume that this guy and the people who watch the video make fun of your condition, I'm sorry for you. As for your rock star comment, I fail to see how it has anything to do with anything or anyone involved into discussion. If it's a shot at me, well thanks - I love that picture, but it owes everything to the brilliant photographer who took the picture, a great artist. Her work has that "rock star" quality. Otherwise, I've been around here for over a decade - people know me and know enough about me to know that I'm no rock star and I never pretended to be. But I do play music.

Oh, and by the way, I am not a Celiac, and the reference to 'rock star' and 'dime a dozen wannabe's' is just for realism and impact, no offense meant. My niece IS however a Celiac, and the condition is VERY REAL, she had to put up with all the BS about it for a long time, she will become very ill to the point of not being able to function and even hospitalized for short periods. As to gluten free foods etc, they were pretty bad at the begining, nut she and her mother, as have others, have progressed to the point of being able to cook all kinds of foods and sweets etc to where no one could tell that they were infact eating gluten free stuff, just as I, and others, after many years of being vegetarian are able to prepare food that people don't pick as being vegetarian.

We're making fun of the people that use your genuine condition as the latest diet trend. Even the dude in the vid expresses genuine empathy for those rare individuals such as yourself. It's the hipsters you should be angry with. We're calling them out.

Hi, Honestly Rain ... you are in the wrong country! For the first 16 years of my life, I was in Portugal and Brazil ... and we only ate fresh food. never saw a can of food until we got to America. Guess where the chemicals come in ... to preserve the food longer! Just like the incredible number of anti-biotics used in meats in America, one never knows how well the body will adjust to that, and also how these will affect your immune system at any given time, specially when the over load of these things can easily interfere with your system ... then we wonder why a mere cold or flu virus won't go away! A lot of the "health" food stores are more of the same ... just different name for the same crap. We just need fresher and cleaner food ... more local stuff and less corporate stuff that comes from goshknows where!

Scoff if you want, but try it for a month and get back to me. ;) PS: "gluten free" foods are the fad. Most are still made of stuff that spikes your glucose and in general are bad for you. PPS: I thought this video was hysterical! :)

Actually, we eat a lot better here than we did back home - I guess I should thank all those Yoga loving/gluten intolerant people - they make it possible for all of us to have access to a wide variety of products. Between farmers' market, Sprouts, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, we have access to anything we need. More expensive, but the options are there. We don't eat much in terms of prepared food either. Of course, unless you decide to become a farmer, raise your own crops, bake your own bread, etc, you always have to take someone else's word that what you are eating is clean. But I have no doubt that it's a lot healthier than what I was raised on.

I believe that there is no formula - it's up to people to try and see what works for you. For some, being a vegan is actually the healthiest solution. For others, it's a bad idea. And, I'm not saying it's the case for you and your wife, but some people omit to say that their new diet is actually part of an entire system of healthy habits. They quit smoking and exercise and sleep 8 hours a night, drink less coffee, etc... And then they tell you that they lost 75lbs when they adopted a plant based diet or stopped eating corn products. Honestly, I've been told about the benefits of removing just about everything from my diet. Suffice for an aliment to become common enough for someone to link it to health problems - whether it's Quinoa or Chia seeds or whatever the latest fad. Heck, I even read a headline about anti-oxydents being a cause of cancer a few weeks ago.

I thought it was good humor...unfortunately good humor is often at the expense of either someone or something. How would I react if someone made jokes about middle aged chubby guys with moobs? Or if a comedian made something funny about Canadian Americans.....I don't think you mean't any harm Rain. Admittedly I didn't listen to the entire movie, but it looks like some guy having a good time with the subject of gluten. If we can't laugh at ourselves then I think the world is just too serious. The subject or peanut allergies, rubber allergies and gluten are great fodder for humor IMHO. Remember when the world was so much simpler? I think the perception for some is that sometimes...notice I said "sometimes" these things can get out of hand. This is America and for now we can have that opinion if we want to. I happen to think yoga and dog socializing clubs are kind of weird but it wouldn't keep me from friending someone who likes it. They probably think I'm strange because I like eggs and corned beef hash for breakfast.
