How to Drag Video Clips in Platinum

I've imported a video file and I'm trying to drag it to the correct time. The ref manual says to simply grab in the header, and the little cross is "SUPPOSED" to appear, but it never does.  Please tell me what's going on?

In Sonar you can not drag the video to the correct time line.  The video is where it is...starts at the beginning and runs. You have to move the audio/midi to match the picture
Maybe what you want to do is change the timeline in Sonar. I'm not sure what you have to work with,  but I'll give you an example of how i work and maybe it will help you.

most video I get start at 1 hour (for technical reasons) or
01:00:00;00 SYMPTE TC usually 29.97 Drop Frame.

So I go to preferences (P is the keybind and make sure advance is checked at the bottom left). Under the "Project" heading is "clock".  Open that up and I put 01:00:00;00 in the offset.  Now my timeline will match what is on the video screen.

If this is not your issue, say you have audio that is longer than the video and the video starts later, you have to either   1) Cut the audio to match the video    2) Grab a video editing program and line things up.  Then render a new picture file that you can load into Sonar and do the audio/music things you need for the video.

hope that helps...good luck

I'm not at my machine right now, but you can control the start point from the video settings by changing the offset. So it requires establishing the smpte time you wish the video to start and setting it appropriately...

You can only adjust the video's start time if Sonar is using the legacy DirectShow video engine. If it's using that engine (works with AVI files), you can drag the clip using the clip header or trim by dragging the clip's left or right edges. If the file is an MP4, I think it will only use the default Media Foundation video engine, and you can only trim with that engine. No changing the start time. You can change the video engine by editing aud.ini. Go to Preferences|Audio|Configuration File, then click the "Edit Config File" button and change VideoEngine=0 for DirectShow or VideoEngine=1 for Media Foundation.
