How to Shorten Project
i accidentally inserted 200 extra measures in a project. i tried to delete them, but the project still shows those un-used measures. how do i delete those measures at the end?

How did you try to delete them? Can't you set the Now Time From to where you want to really have the end on that track, and then set the Now Time Through time to go through the end, then cut or delete? I suppose an alternative would be to drag to shorten - it's just a lot of dragging. Bob Bone

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding yor question, is it that you want to delete measures at the end of a project, or in the middle? If you highlight the bars, then choose EDIT - DLETE SPECIAL form the project menu, make sure "Delete Hole" is checked, will that not do It? Sorry if I've not understood your post properly.

the project does keep going on through the empty measures past the intended end.

Please forgive me for this stupid question - did you save after deleting the measures? And, when you DID delete them, did they go away, and then come back after reload? I apologize for even asking the first one, Bob Bone

i now have the stop at end checked. and yes, deleted, saved, closed, re-opened, and the project keeps running. is there a marker or something to set the end of a project so it stops?

Sorry to sound stupid, but don't know what to suggest now. This does ring a bell with projects I've worked on before, but not in my studio and am now off to bed. Will have a look tomorrow. I hope someone else pops in to sort this before then.

Maybe there is a little snippet of audio at the end. Sometimes it can be so small that you miss it. Select everything starting at where you want it to end then "edit/delete". If "Options/stop at project end" is checked the transport should stop where the last track ends. Also, if there is midi control data in the track past where the song is supposed to end the transport will play till the end of the midi data.

There's all sorts of things that will keep a project going past the end. Favourites are.... Some sort of MIDI event - check the event list to see those. Automation nodes - they are tricky ones now since the edit filter as they aren't always immediately obvious. Did you have track envelopes checked when you did the delete hole?

First check that you have "Select Track Envelopes with Clips" selected. That is set in the TV menu--->Options. Select all tracks and the time range you wish to delete. Select "Delete special" from the Main menu--->Edit. There is an option there to delete track/buss automation along with Tempo changes Mete/key changes etc as well as "Delete hole" If any of those are unselectable it may mean there aren't any in the selection Press okay That should sort it out for you

thanks. tried it all, but no luck. i guess it's not a big deal i have those extra 20 measures of play. so is there no marker or other setting to mark an end? even if one had clips past a desired end, can't u set the time cursor to stop, without looping back?

In the track view, you see little dots if there is something else coming up later in a track. If all tracks are showing and you see no dots, then those are just the normal blank measures that are always there--they don't do anything and don't hurt anything. You can change the project to stop at the end instead of continuing to scroll—similar to making a tape stop when the music stops instead of running the tape off the reel and continuing to spin. Another option is just to turn the song into a concept album and fill up those blank bars,

Have you tried checking the event list? Press Ctrl + A then Alt + 8. That will select all and open the event list. In the event list view menu make sure all events are checked. Check the times at the end of the project and see if there are any events present at all. Patch changes for example. Any event will keep Sonar going until it reaches the last one. If there's no event or any data at all beyond the end of the project I'm a bit clueless TBH. IIRC there was a long standing bug that would keep Sonar going past project end but I think that was automation related and I thought it had been fixed.

That's the "Stop at project end" option in the TV--->Options menu. I think that was one of the first suggestions. If it does stop eventually see if there is anything at the stop point.

forgot - did try that. the only thing i see is i have a clip that i shortened at the end. so there is no midi data because it is hidden. but, even if i restore the midi clip to its initial length, the time still goes on after that. i also tried to just delete it but again, the time continues on. i see absolutely nothing past the last clip.

That would suggest there is some sort of event and/or data at measure 213. Envelope node maybe? That would be a likely explanation as they could easily be hidden by the edit filter. Have you got "TV Menu--->View--->Display--->View Ghosted Data" checked? You should at least see any envelopes ghosted then. The only other thing I can think of is some sort of MIDI CC but that should show in the event list. Other than that I really don't know what else to suggest.
