How to Write wah pedal movements in TH2 ?
I find TH2 wah wah sounds quite useful. Most of the time I still use real Crybaby before audio interface though it is appealing to have an option to add or alter "footwork" performance after tracking. The "write" automation button does not seem to be working - I select it in TH2, it changes to "red", then play project and furiously move wah pedal with my mouse, I hear pretty decent wah efffect on my guitar track and this "automation" does not get recorded. Any idea? Also is there a way to control TH2 wah with a real expression pedal?

You can drag the pedal to the smart bar and tie the wah to a particular node on that bar. Once done, you can automate using an envelope or record your automation.
Check the overloud help button on the gui.
Just to add, I tie the pedal on my gr20 to the same element in the smart bar. Then, I can just play as normal using a real pedal to create the wah automation envelope.
There is a cakewalk blog that describes how to do this.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013309 I want to add that you can just use act to map to anything in the smart bar. It is helpful to know. This is how I did it before the blog was posted.

Thanks Gswitz, I completely overlooked the Smart Panel advantages. Very curious how you have set up a gr20, I have VOX Tonelab LE which is collecting dust now and perhaps I will be able to use its midi in/outs to control TH2. Manual is not much clear on that.

I just plugged mine in and used act initially. Then you click on the smart bar item to automate and move the pedal and they map. :-)

I may have some type instructions I wrote for another user at home. I'll give a look and post back.

I used to have an old GT5 Boss pedalboard that I had midied into TH2 as a real time controller. I have also had good results with TH2 and an old POD 2 with it's footpedal. Even had the POD 2 mapped so that the amp controls controlled TH2 amp knobs. It worked well. One of these days I'll get around to buying a dedicated foot controller. I hear the Behringer 1010 is good for this. I really like TH2 with that kind of control.

Here's what I learned getting it to work... First, I like to record at 24 bit 88.2 and after following the instructions on this thread... [link=http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=2708854&mpage=1#2709067]http://forum.cakewalk.com...54&mpage=1#2709067[/link] I am able to have 2 tracks not frozen at 88.2 24 bit with th2. This helps me. Next, I run the midi out from my GR20 to my midi in on my m-audio fast track ultra. I open X2, click P > Midi Devices and ensure the midi device is checked and click apply. Next > Controllers/Surfaces > Yellow Star Button > Act Midi Controller Choice > In Port = Fast Track Ultra In > Out put = None > Act Checked > WAI unchecked > Apply. OK to return to main screen Utilities > Act Midi Controller 1 > This opens the Act Midi controller screen which will follow the control with the focus. Next, Add and audio track to your project and TH2 to the FX Bin. I had trouble using it through an FX Chain in the Pro Channel. (you can drag an FX Chain to the bin and extract it). Double click the TH2 to open it. In the TH2 screen, add a volume pedal or any other thing to the signal chain. Drag the volume pedal itself to one of the array of smart buttons/switches/nobs at the bottom of the window... this will then enable you to assign a control from the pedal to that button or nob. Now > Bring the focus from the TH2 window to the Act Midi Controller Window. The Act Enabled Device (see bottom left of this window) should say TH2-64. The array of smart controls should be across the top row in blue. Click the smart control you want to automate with your pedal on the bottom half so it says 'midi learn' and then move the pedal. If it is working properly, it should immediately begin to read the value from the pedal and apply it to the smart nob... so on the window for the TH2 you will actually see the pedal rising and falling as you move your real life pedal.

I love learning new things. However, this does not seem to work for me. I have a Digitech RP255 USB MIDI configured as an instrument. It does not show up as a controller. When I follow this and the BLOG setup I get no response from it as a controller. ... Also, if I enable Write and move the TH2 wah pedal it will create an envelope but upon playback the envelope will not trigger the wah.

I never tried with my Pod XT and foot controller. I just play the part, add the wah effect and create envelopes. It works pretty well but is time consuming. The good part is it's ver exacting.

Soens, Next > Controllers/Surfaces > Yellow Star Button > Act Midi Controller Choice > In Port = Fast Track Ultra In > Out put = None > Act Checked > WAI unchecked > Apply. This is how you set up the midi device. Click the yellow star and then set it as an Act midi controller and define your in port. If you don't have a midi in from the device, then it can't be set up, but if you do have midi in, you should be able to configure it.

If your device has MIDI out or USB/MIDI drivers then it should work, though mine isn't working at the moment. Post #9 is the list though it's not as clear as it could be. Steve

So Digitech says: "The R255 cannot be used as a midi controller for a DAW."

Bummer soens. FYI midi controllers are not super expensive if that makes you feel better.
